Oxygen in the Sun's Chromosphere

Nature, 1935
PHOTOGRAPHS which I have taken at the Kodaikanal Observatory show that oxygen is a normal constituent of the sun's chromosphere, and is probably in great abundance.

Sounding the Sun's Chromosphere

The Astrophysical Journal, 1997
Time-distance analysis of solar acoustic waves with frequencies above the nominal atmospheric acoustic cutoff frequency (~5.3 mHz) shows partial reflection of the waves at both the Sun's photosphere and a layer located higher in the atmosphere. This result supports recent reports of chromospheric modes.

Does the Sun Have a Full-Time Chromosphere?

The Astrophysical Journal, 1999
The successful modeling of the dynamics of H2v bright points in the nonmagnetic chromosphere by Carlsson & Stein gave as a by-product a part-time chromosphere lacking the persistent outward temperature increase of time-average empirical models, which is needed to explain observations of UV emission lines and continua.

Similarities between chromospheric and photospheric quiet-Sun magnetograms

Solar Physics, 2000
Simultaneous observations of chromospheric (Hβ) and photospheric (Fe i λ5324.19 A) magnetograms in quiet solar regions enable us to study the spatial configuration of the magnetic field in the solar atmosphere. With the typical spatial resolution of the Huairou magnetograph, the photospheric and chromospheric magnetic structures of the quiet Sun ...

Physical Processes in the Lower Chromosphere of the Sun

Plasma Physics Reports, 2020
A specificity of the boundary between the photosphere and the chromosphere of the Sun consists in considerable acceleration of plasma spicules above this boundary and appearance of wave motions (predominantly Alfven waves). Analytical solution to the equations of magnetic hydrodynamics is constructed in the vicinity of this boundary from the ...
