Always the Sun: The Uniqueness of Sun Exposure in Tourism
Tourism Review International, 2021Sun exposure, although beneficial and enjoyable, has negative consequences, most prominently an increased risk of developing skin cancer. This article discusses the current confusion regarding sun exposure. Having been told for many years to avoid the sun in an effort to prevent skin cancer, we are now being told that we may actually need to increase our exposure to sunlight to improve our health. Both sides of the debate are discussed and the information available is reviewed.

▪ Abstract Sunlight exposure produces a variety of adverse cutaneous effects. Erythema, photosensitivity, and immunologic alterations represent acute events, whereas photoaging and carcinogenesis are long-term consequences. These adverse cutaneous sequelae can be minimized by photoprotection in the form of sun avoidance, regular cover-up with clothing,

Cutaneous Effects of Sun Exposure
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1970To the Editor.— Extensive skin changes in an 85-year-old man continuously exposed to sunshine during a 63-year career as a lifeguard bear testimony to the potentially harmful effects of ultraviolet light. Warnings against prolonged exposure to sunlight have been meager and little heeded, yet, in this era of increased leisure, vacationing in sunny ...

Vitamin D is generally accepted in its importance on the regulation of calcium homeostasis and bone metabolism. Moreover, further health effects due to vitamin D are under discussion. In its effect, vitamin D is more like a hormone. In the classic view, a vitamin is an essential nutrient, which cannot be synthesized independently in the body.
