Field comparison of network Sun photometers [PDF]
Measurements of aerosol optical depth have become more numerous since the mid‐1990s with the onset of commercially available, high‐quality, low‐maintenance automatic instrumentation. The development of several networks for aerosol measurements, and the next day availability of preliminary data for some, have further enhanced interest in the products ...

Verification of CALIOP, MODIS, MISR, and OMI aerosol optical depth retrievals against Sun-photometer data over Zanjan [PDF]
In this paper, aerosol optical depth measured by Caliop, MODIS, MISR, and OMI satellite sensors is compared with Sun-photometer data located in the Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences (IASBS) from December 2009 to December 2013 over Zanjan ...

Comparison of the aerosol optical properties and size distribution retrieved by sun photometer with in situ measurements at midlatitude [PDF]
Aerosols influence the Earth radiative budget through scattering and absorption of solar radiation. Several methods are used to investigate aerosol properties and thus quantify their direct and indirect impacts on climate.

Detection and characterization of volcanic ash plumes over Lille during the Eyjafjallajökull eruption [PDF]
Routine sun-photometer and micro-lidar measurements were performed in Lille, northern France, in April and May 2010 during the Eyjafjallajökull volcanic eruption.

Improving Langley calibrations by reducing diurnal variations of aerosol Ångström parameters [PDF]
Errors in the sun photometer calibration constant lead to artificial diurnal variations, symmetric around solar noon, of the retrieved aerosol optical depth (AOD) and the associated Ångström exponent α and its curvature γ.

Calibration of Raman lidar water vapor profiles by means of AERONET photometer observations and GDAS meteorological data [PDF]
We present a practical method to continuously calibrate Raman lidar observations of water vapor mixing ratio profiles. The water vapor profile measured with the multiwavelength polarization Raman lidar PollyXT is calibrated by means of co-located ...

Ship-Based Sun Photometer Measurements Using Microtops Sun Photometers
Abstract The use of hand-held Microtops II sun photometers (built by Solar Light Inc.) on ship platforms is discussed. Their calibration, filter stability, and temperature effects are also described. It is found that under rough conditions, the ship motion causes the largest error, which can result in a bias toward higher optical depths.

Assessment of the total precipitable water from a sun photometer, microwave radiometer and radiosondes at a continental site in southeastern Europe [PDF]
In this study, we discuss the differences in the total precipitable water (TPW), retrieved from a Cimel sun photometer operating at a continental site in southeast Europe, between version 3 (V3) and version 2 (V2) of the AErosol RObotic NETwork (AERONET)

Discovery of optical pulsations in V2116 Ophiuchi/GX 1+4 [PDF]
We report the detection of pulsations with $\sim 124$ s period in V2116 Oph, the optical counterpart of the low-mass X-ray binary GX 1+4. The pulsations are sinusoidal with modulation amplitude of up to 4% in blue light and were observed in ten different
