Nature, 1970A FEW years ago Hawkins1–3 demonstrated that Stonehenge had more astronomical significance than previously recognized, but serious criticisms have been raised against parts of his theory. In particular, Atkinson4,5 has challenged Hawkins's basic proposition that the Heel Stone indicated the direction of sunrise on midsummer morning.

In this last chapter, we turn our telescopes back to the Moon. Small when compared to some of the giant planets’ satellites, the Moon is our intimate companion and has played a vital role in the history of our planet. It probably restrained the young Earth from developing too great an orbital spin. It determines the cycle of the tides.

The Quarterly of Film Radio and Television, 1955DOROTHY B. JONES served as chief of the film reviewing and analysis section of OWI during World War II. This piece on Sunrise will appear in somewhat revised form in her forthcoming book on important American films which were studied while she was a Fellow of the Rockefeller Foundation in the field of film criticism.
