Performance of a glider‐mounted multifrequency echosounder for measuring the vertical distribution and abundance of large pelagic copepods

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography: Methods, EarlyView.
Abstract The difficulty of sampling zooplankton communities in situ has driven advancements in autonomous, remote sensing technology. The goal of this paper was to perform a gear comparison study testing the performance of one such piece of technology—a glider‐mounted four‐frequency echosounder—against traditional shipboard methods of measuring ...

Sunrise

open access: yesKritike: An Online Journal of Philosophy, 2021
This chapter focuses on Elvis Presley, who was Sun Studio's biggest star until Sam Phillips sold his contract to RCA (Radio Corporation of America). Elvis was now the King, with hits such as “Heartbreak Hotel” and “Hound Dog,” and Love Me Tender (1956) already in movie theaters.

Sunrise with Lincoln and Meanings with Chuck [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
I walked 150 years on Monday. I walked across a great chasm of history. Physically, I walked from the Arlington Cemetery Metro Station across Memorial Bridge, then continued down the National Mall to 4th Street, where I witnessed one of the most peculiar

Functional diversity in agricultural landscapes: evidence of long‐term clustering and multi‐scale effects of land use on avian communities

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Functional diversity (FD) is an essential community property connecting biodiversity, ecosystem functioning, and conservation objectives. In agricultural landscapes, avian communities, which play key functional roles, are facing large‐scale biodiversity erosion, largely due to land‐use changes.

Spectral analysis of red scattered sunlight at sunrise

open access: yes, 2006
We analyze and fit visible spectra of a red horizon at sunrise. The shape of the spectra consist of a blue continuum followed by a red bump. The reddest spectra are well fitted by the product of a spectrum of extinguished sunlight (Rayleigh extinction ...

Marine litter can shift sea turtle nests toward the shoreline

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Marine litter is an emerging threat to sea turtle rookeries, yet its effects on nesting behaviour remain poorly understood. In this study, we investigated how macro‐litter accumulation on beaches influences the spatial distribution of loggerhead turtle Caretta caretta nests on Boa Vista Island, Cabo Verde.

Integrated science for environmental decision-making: the challenge for biodiversity and ecosystem informatics

open access: yesData Science Journal, 2006
Information concerning biodiversity and ecosystems is critical to a wide range of scientific, educational, and government uses; however, much of this information is not easily accessible.

Detection of large acoustic energy flux in the solar atmosphere

open access: yes, 2010
We study the energy flux carried by acoustic waves excited by convective motions at sub-photospheric levels. The analysis of high-resolution spectropolarimetric data taken with IMaX/Sunrise provides a total energy flux of ~ 6400--7700 Wm$^{-2}$ at a ...

Design, Synthesis, Cytotoxicity Assessment, and Molecular Docking of Novel Triazolopyrimidines as Potent Cyclin‐Dependent Kinase 4 Inhibitors

open access: yesChemistryOpen, EarlyView.
A novel series of 1,5‐dihydro‐[1,2,4]triazolo[4,3‐a]pyrimidines (5a–g) is synthesized and evaluated as potential CDK4 inhibitors. Compounds 5c and 5d exhibit strong cytotoxicity toward HepG2 and MCF‐7 cells with IC50 ≈ 1–2 µM, comparable to doxorubicin.
