Lignin: a nature-inspired sun blocker for broad-spectrum sunscreens

, 2015
We report the evaluation of lignin for the development of high-performance broad-spectrum sunscreens. Lignin is added into several commercial sunscreen products. Significant enhancements in ultraviolet (UV) absorbance are observed.

Sunscreen Performance of Lignin from Different Technical Resources and Their General Synergistic Effect with Synthetic Sunscreens

, 2016
Five types of industrial lignin are blended with a pure cream and a commercial sunscreen lotion. Lignin is found to significantly boost their sunscreen performance. Photostability of the lignin-modified lotions is analyzed.

Sunscreens

The Journal of Dermatologic Surgery and Oncology, 1991
The awareness of sun‐induced skin damage has increased in both the lay public and physician.Coincidentally, there has been progress in the development of new ultraviolet‐(UV) radiation protecting sunscreens. In this review and update on sunscreens, sunscreen classification, UVB and UVA protection, sunscreen vehicle, and substantivity will be addressed.

Senescence and sunscreens

British Journal of Dermatology, 1990
The most reliable way to reduce the chronic effects of solar UV radiation is to limit exposure. Animal data using hairless albino mice suggest that the routine use of sunscreens, which usually act as UVB (280-315 nm) filters, may prevent or inhibit skin photocarcinogenesis and photoageing in man.

Contact sensitization to sunscreens

American Journal of Contact Dermatitis, 1997
Para aminobenzoic acid (PABA) derivatives and cinnamate are chemical sunscreens that protect against UVB (290 to 320 nm). They may occasionally produce contact and photocontact sensitization. To report a sensitization to octyl-dimethyl-PABA and photosensitization to 2-ethylhexyl-p-metossicinnamate in a 31-year-old man.A patient with a 3-year history of ...
