Origin of Sunspots

Nature, 1950
ALTHOUGH astronomers have commonly believed that sunspots are deep-seated vortices, the chief characteristics of a spot (an intense magnetic field and a cool umbra) have never been successfully explained.

SunSpot

Proceedings of the 3rd ACM International Conference on Systems for Energy-Efficient Built Environments, 2016
Homeowners are increasingly deploying grid-tied solar systems due to the rapid decline in solar module prices. The energy produced by these solar-powered homes is monitored by utilities and third parties using networked energy meters, which record and transmit energy data at fine-grained intervals.

Sunspots and Cycles

The Review of Economic Studies, 1986
Because sunspot equilibria seem to be of central importance for an understanding of rational expectations, we seek here to characterize completely a limited class of sunspot equilibria (stationary ones with two possible natural events) in the simplest overlapping generations model of production.

Sunspots

2021
Sunspots are the most prominent manifestations of magnetic fields on the visible surface of the Sun (photosphere). While historic records mention sunspot observations by eye more than two thousand years ago, the physical nature of sunspots has been unraveled only in the past century starting with the pioneering work of Hale and Evershed.

Group Sunspot Numbers: Sunspot Cycle Characteristics

Solar Physics, 2002
We examine the "Group" sunspot numbers constructed by Hoyt and Schatten to determine their utility in characterizing the solar activity cycle. We compare smoothed monthly Group Sunspot Numbers to Zurich (International) Sunspot Numbers, 10.7-cm radio flux, and total sunspot area.
