Tailoring Laser Powder Bed Fusion and Post‐Processing Parameters for JIS SKD61 Tool Steels: Surface Roughness, Microstructure, and Mechanical Properties

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Laser powder bed fusion of JIS SKD61 tool steel is systematically optimized using a Taguchi design and ANOVA. Hatch spacing and layer thickness are identified as dominant parameters controlling surface roughness and tensile strength. Subsequent tempering at 600°C improves microstructural stability and mechanical performance, enabling high‐density SKD61

Investigation of thermally assisted end milling of 254 SMO super austenitic stainless steel

open access: yesThe International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology
Abstract Given the challenges associated with machining super austenitic stainless steels (SASS), including their high mechanical strength, low thermal conductivity, high work-hardening tendency, and high ductility, thermally assisted machining (TAM) has emerged as a promising approach to enhance the machinability of these materials.

Microstructure Characterization of Bending Effects in 304L Stainless Steel Cladded with Low‐Alloy Steel Weld

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Prebending of 304L/Q345R cladded plates significantly alters the subsequent weld thermal cycle and modifies the local interfacial microstructure. Combined electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) and microscopy analysis demonstrates that deformation twinning, martensitic transformation, and defect initiation are concentrated at the trimaterial junction,

Computer Modeling of the Ferrite‐To‐Austenite Transformation in a Super‐Duplex Stainless Steel and the Important Role of Trans‐Interface Diffusion

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
An accurate moving boundary model for volume diffusion containing boundary conditions from trans‐interface diffusion (TID) simulates the austenite growth during cooling. TID of Cr, Mo, N and Ni enhance growth kinetics. Without TID, compositions of the interface region change, decreasing the driving force for growth and finally causing numerical ...

Comparison of 2507 Duplex and 28 % Cr- Austenitic Stainless Steel Corrosion Behavior for High Pressure and High Temperature (HPHT) in Sour Service Condition with C-ring Experiment

open access: yes, 2021
The scarcity of oil and gas resources made High Pressure and High Temperature (HPHT) reservoir attractive to be developed. The sour service environment gives an additional factor in material selection for HPHT reservoir. Austenitic 28 Cr and super duplex

Influence of Tramp Elements on Phase Transformations, Structure, and Properties of Scrap‐Based Steels: A Focused Review of Recent Developments

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This review explains how impurities from recycled scrap affect steel production and performance. Even small amounts (far below 1%) of these impurities can change how steel behaves during fabrication but also affect the properties of the end product. With better understanding and targeted countermeasures, these challenges can be managed, enabling wider ...

Tailored Hardening and Isothermal Bainitizing of Additively Manufactured Nitrogen‐Enhanced Martensitic Chromium Steel

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Tailored heat treatments transform additively manufactured high‐nitrogen martensitic Cr steel from austenitic as‐built condition to high‐hardness states. Isothermal bainitizing at 250°C generates an ultrafine nanostructure and achieves higher hardness than conventional hardening and tempering, highlighting a promising postprocessing route for laser ...
