Welding duplex and super duplex stainless steels

Anti-Corrosion Methods and Materials, 1995
Duplex stainless steels have become important competitors to austenitic stainless steels in many applications and a great deal of attention has focused on the welding aspects. The introduction of modern grades with improved properties and a competitive price level have increased their use in the offshore, petrochemical and shipbuilding industries, for ...

Micro Flash Welding of Super Duplex Stainless Steels

Materials Science Forum, 2007
Super duplex stainless steels were welded using new flash butt welding technology of temperature controlling system. The super duplex stainless steel (329J4L) and conventional duplex stainless steel (329J3L) were used. The samples were mounted in the dies using a Gleeble thermal simulator and flash but welding was made.

Super Duplex/Duplex Stainless Steel Umbilical Tube Resistance to HISC

29th International Conference on Ocean, Offshore and Arctic Engineering: Volume 6, 2010
Super duplex/duplex stainless steel is susceptible to Hydrogen Induced Stress Cracking (HISC) whilst under the influence of Cathodic Protection (CP) systems. Field failure experiences have been reported on super duplex stainless steel components in subsea applications.

Rolling Texture Formation in Super-Duplex Stainless Steel

Solid State Phenomena, 2010
The present research is a part of project which concerns a deformation behavior of duplex type ferritic-austenitic stainless steels. This paper focuses on the examination of ferrite and austenite textures formed upon thermo-mechanical treatment and deformation textures developed during cold-rolling of super-duplex stainless steel sheet.

Technical Challenges in Using Super Duplex Stainless Steel

CORROSION 2006, 2006
Abstract Super Duplex Stainless Steel (SDSS) was selected, fabricated and installed for the high pressure, deoxygenated seawater sections of Mars Waterflood Project (MWP). Several factors led to the selection of this material including corrosion resistance in seawater, relatively high strength and the relative uncertainty in the ...

Eddy current techniques for super duplex stainless steel characterization

Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 2015
Abstract Super duplex stainless steel (SDSS) is a two-phase material where the microstructure consists of grains of ferrite (δ) and austenite (γ). SDSS exhibit an attractive combination of properties, such as: strength, toughness and stress corrosion cracking resistance.

Failure of a super duplex stainless steel reaction vessel

Engineering Failure Analysis, 2004
Abstract Crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking (SCC) were recently discovered in a vessel used to strip vinyl chloride monomer from a water-based slurry of PVC granules. The vessel was manufactured from UNS S32750 super duplex stainless steel and the welds were produced using matching welding consumables.

Hot working characteristics of S32760 super duplex stainless steel

Journal of Mechanical Science and Technology, 2019
Hot deformation behavior of S32760 super austenitic stainless steel was studied in the temperature range of 950 ∼ 1250 °C and strain rate range of 0.1∼10 s-1 employing Gleeble 3800 equipment. The flow stress was modeled using Arrhenius equation and Zener-Hollomon parameter(Z).

Extending the Application Range of Super-duplex Stainless Steels

CORROSION 2007, 2007
Abstract Super-duplex stainless steels such as UNS S32750 have found extensive use in sea water applications as well as in equipment in the process industry, e.g. refinery heat exchangers. The newly developed hyper duplex grade UNS S32707 allows extension of the application range of austenitic-ferritic alloys into more aggressive ...

Recrystallisation in High Nitrogen Alloyed Super Duplex Stainless Steel

Materials Science Forum, 1999
While the recrystallisation mechanisms and texture development of cold rolled single phase materials especially those of ferritic steels, and to lesser extent, those of austenitic steels are well known and investigated [1,2], the recrystallisation in duplex and super duplex stainless steels was much less subject of research, although these steels have ...
