Supercell partitions of flag superspaces

Journal of Soviet Mathematics, 1990
A natural partition of flag superspaces into Schubert supercells indexed by Weyl supergroups is described. The closures and the singularities of these Schubert cells are closely studied. To resolve these singularities the authors generalize the classical Bott-Samelson construction.

Supercell Gratings for Light Trapping

Frontiers in Optics 2012/Laser Science XXVIII, 2012
Diffractive optics offers interesting opportunities for light trapping in photovoltaics. A supercell grating allows us to tailor the Fourier components of the diffractive structure to the properties of the absorbing material.

A long‐lived supercell over mountainous terrain

Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, 2017
The life cycle of a convective storm forming over highly complex topography on the northern side of the Alps is studied. Moist convection began ahead of a cold front in the late morning of 2 August 2007 in eastern Switzerland. It developed into a supercell storm that moved along the Alpine main crest for more than 8 h, passed over several 2000 m high ...

Supercells Outcompete Their Neighbors

Science's STKE, 2004
Mutations that increase cell size or proliferation rates can alter organ size or organism size, or both. In mosaic organisms or tissues in which only a subset of the cells carry the mutation, the situation is more complex, and sometimes these animals or tissues can be of normal size.

Right-Moving Supercell Tornadogenesis during Interaction with a Left-Moving Supercell’s Rear-Flank Outflow

Weather and Forecasting
Abstract On the local afternoon of 29 May 2012, a long-lived, right-moving (RM) supercell formed over northwestern Oklahoma and turned roughly southeastward. For >3 h, as it moved toward the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, metro area, this supercell remained nontornadic and visually high-based, producing a nearly tornadic gustnado and a swath of ...

Extracting Information from a Supercell Calculation

MRS Proceedings, 1997
ABSTRACTA number of corrections must be made to a first-principles defect supercell calculation if the results are to be of use in calculating properties of isolated defects. These are illustrated for a tetrahedral self-interstitial in silicon, which places two electrons in the conduction band.

Characteristics of Lightning in Supercells

2008
This chapter focuses on the lightning and charge structure observed in supercells; a particular class of severe thunderstorms that are typically responsible for producing the most violent hailstorms and tornadoes. The chapter reviews common supercell features, the classification of supercells based on structural and visual characteristics, as well as ...

Dipole correction for surface supercell calculations

Physical Review B, 1999
When performing density-functional calculations of surfaces using a plane-wave pseudopotential code, it is necessary to embed a slab with two surfaces in a periodic supercell. In many situations, it is desirable to study an asymmetric slab with a net surface dipole density.
