Levitation Characteristics of an Aged Superconducting Magnetic Bearing

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Superconducting magnetic bearings are friction-free devices and therefore in principle suitable for long-term operation, as no wear is observed. However, other degradation mechanisms can influence the operation.

Signatures of Edge States in Antiferromagnetic Van der Waals Josephson Junctions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The combination of superconductivity and magnetic textures leads to unconventional superconducting phenomena, including new correlated and topological phases. Van der Waals (vdW) materials emerge as a versatile platform for exploring the interplay between these two competing orders.

Superconducting magnetic energy storage

open access: yesProceedings of the IEEE, 1983
The author presents the rationale for energy storage on utility systems, describes the general technology of SMES (superconducting magnetic energy storage), and explains the chronological development of technology. The present ETM (Engineering Test Model) program is outlined. The impact of high-T/sub c/ materials on SMES is discussed.

Influence of Platinum Thin Films on the Photophysical and Quantum Properties of Near‐Surface NV Centers

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
This work investigates the impact of platinum thin films on shallow nitrogen‐vacancy (NV) centers in diamond for quantum sensing applications. Five samples are analyzed with varying nitrogen implantation energies (2.5–60 keV) and changes in optical properties, charge state, and coherence times are reported.

Calculation of persistent currents in superconducting magnets

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2000
This paper describes a semianalytical hysteresis model for hard superconductors. The model is based on the critical state model considering the dependency of the critical current density on the varying local field in the superconducting filaments.
