CLIQ-Based Quench Protection of a Chain of High-Field Superconducting Magnets

open access: yesIEEE transactions on applied superconductivity, 2016
Conventional quench protection systems for high-magnetic-field superconducting magnets are based on external heaters composed of resistive strips in close contact with the coil and rely on thermal diffusion across insulation layers on the order of tens ...

Cryogenic Focused Ion Beam Milling to Investigate the Anisotropic Magnetotransport Properties of Bismuth Microcrystals

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The highly anisotropic Fermi surface of bismuth results in variations in magnetotransport properties across different crystallographic directions, which can be characterized by studying microcrystals. To avoid the observed surface melting under room temperature Focused Ion Beam (FIB) irradiation, two low‐temperature FIB fabrication methods are proposed

Screening currents increase thermal quench propagation speed in ultra-high-field REBCO magnets

open access: yesResults in Engineering
Superconducting REBCO (REBa2Cu3O7−x, where RE is a rare earth, typically Y, Gd or Eu) electromagnets are useful for many applications like medical magnetic resonace imaging (MRI), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, and magnets for particle ...

Imaging the Statics and Dynamics of Superconducting Vortices and Antivortices Induced by Magnetic Microdisks

open access: yesPhysical Review X, 2011
If a magnet of microscopic dimensions is brought in close proximity to a superconductor, the quantized nature of their interaction due to the creation of flux quanta in the superconducting system becomes noticeable.

KEK effort for high field magnets

open access: yes, 2011
KEK has emphasized efforts to develop the RHQNb3Al superconductor and a sub-scale magnet reaching 13 T towards the HL-LHC upgrade in last years. In addition, relevant R&D regarding radiation resistance has been carried out.

Thickness‐Dependent Skyrmion Evolution in Fe3GeTe2 During Magnetization Reversal

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Thickness‐ and field‐dependent magnetic domain behavior in 2D van der Waals Fe3GeTe2 is studied using Lorentz TEM and micromagnetic simulations. A patch‐like domain phase evolves from skyrmions during magnetization reversal, and step edges between thickness regions act as pinning sites.

Spectrally Tunable 2D Material‐Based Infrared Photodetectors for Intelligent Optoelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Intelligent optoelectronics through spectral engineering of 2D material‐based infrared photodetectors. Abstract The evolution of intelligent optoelectronic systems is driven by artificial intelligence (AI). However, their practical realization hinges on the ability to dynamically capture and process optical signals across a broad infrared (IR) spectrum.

Beam-based measurements of persistent current decay in the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2001
The two rings of the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider are equipped with superconducting dipole magnets. At injection, induced persistent currents in these magnets lead to a sextupole component.

Mesoporous Carbon Thin Films with Large Mesopores as Model Material for Electrochemical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Mesoporous carbon thin films possessing 70 nm mesopores are prepared on titanium substrates by soft templating of resol resins with a self‐synthesized poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐poly(hexyl acrylate) block copolymer. A strategy to avoid corrosion of the metal substrate is presented, and the films are extensively characterized in terms of morphology ...
