Initiation of deposition in supercritical turbidity currents downstream of a slope break.

2022
Turbidity currents flowing across the ocean floor encounter changes of the local bathymetry including abrupt reductions in slope gradient also known as slope breaks. Turbidity currents flowing across a slope break will change their flow dynamics and may start to deposit as a consequence. Previous experiments on turbidity currents crossing a slope break

Abrupt Deflected Supercritical Water flow in Sloped Channels

Journal of Hydrodynamics, 2008
The effect of the bottom slope on abrupt deflected supercritical water flow was experimentally and theoretically studied. Model tests were conducted in a flume of 1.2 m wide and 2.6 m long with sloped bottom at an angle 35.54°, its length of deflector was 0.2 m and the deflection angles were 15° and 30°.

Sedimentary facies related to supercritical-flow bedforms in foreset slopes of a Gilbert-type delta (middle Pleistocene, central Japan)

Sedimentary Geology, 2020
Abstract Bedforms related to supercritical flows and hydraulic jumps have been increasingly recognized in various depositional environments. However, few ancient examples have been investigated in terms of the variations and transitions of supercritical-flow deposits.

Impacts of sediment load on Manning coefficient in supercritical shallow flow on steep slopes

Hydrological Processes, 2010
AbstractThe Manning equation is one of the most widely used formulae for calculating the velocity of shallow overland flow in hydrological and erosion models. Precise estimation of the Manning's friction coefficient (n) is critical to determining overland flow and soil erosion processes.

Slope fans and aprons dominated by supercritical bedforms:  topographic and feeding system controls (Southeastern Tyrrhenian Sea)

2022
<p>In the marine environment, turbidite supercritical bedforms have been widely reported from channel-axis and overbank wedges. On the contrary, their dominance in the make-up of fans and apron, apart from local areas such as channel mouths, is at present not recognized.

Air-Water Interface Area in Supercritical Flows Down Small-Slope Chutes

1996
In storm waterways, at dam outlets and in water treatment plants, high-velocity supercritical flows are characterised by some air entrainment. The entrainment of fine air bubbles and the strong turbulent mixing contribute both to the air-water transfer of volatile gases (e.g. oxygen, nitrogen, VOC).

Froude supercritical flow bedforms in deepwater slope channels? Field examples in conglomerates, sandstones and fine‐grained deposits

Sedimentology, 2017
AbstractActive margin continental slope outcrops from the Eocene Juncal Formation, the Eocene La Jolla Group and the Miocene Capistrano Formation display sedimentary structures and depositional geometries that suggest deposition from Froude supercritical flow, based on comparison to strata produced by flume experiments.
