Superelastic electron scattering on lithium

Physical Review A, 1996
Reduced Stokes parameters of the 2{sup 2}{ital P} state of lithium are measured using superelastic electron-scattering techniques and calculated using the convergent close-coupling method. The measurements and calculations are in excellent agreement at all scattering angles.

Superelastic Nickel-titanium Wires

British Journal of Orthodontics, 1992
Superelastic nickel-titanium archwires, unlike conventional wires, are capable of withstanding very large deflections and on returning to their original shape on deactivation will produce more moderate forces. The region over which there is a 'plateau' depends on the deflection and is greater the larger the deflection.

Innovative Superelastic Isolation Device

Journal of Earthquake Engineering, 2011
The objective of the present work is to propose a new seismic isolation device based on superelastic material components manufactured using shape memory alloys. Seismic isolation is one of the most effective options for the passive protection of structures.

Superelastic Orthopedic Implant Coatings

Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance, 2014
The demand for hip and knee replacement surgery is substantial and growing. Unfortunately, most joint replacement surgeries will fail within 10-25 years, thereby requiring an arduous, painful, and expensive revision surgery. To address this issue, a novel orthopedic implant coating material (“eXalt”) has been developed.

Reusable Superelastic Iris Retractor

Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina, 1999
Abstract. We report the development and testing of a new reusable iris retractor for surgical dilatation of the pupil. The iris retractor is composed of superelastic nitinol (nickel-titanium alloy) which can be repeatedly flexed. The reusable superelastic iris retractor is a valuable new device for temporary mechanical dilation of the pupil.

Network Modulus and Superelasticity

Macromolecules, 1994
We discuss the elastic modulus G and swelling/deswelling behavior of networks as a function of their concentration 4 and their preparation state. Simple scaling ideas reproduce the prediction of James and Guth for the modulus of networks swollen in a 8 solvent (G - 4113) but lead to a new prediction in a good solvent (G - 4'/12).

Compliant articulation structure using superelastic NiTiNOL

Smart Materials and Structures, 2012
A device that can provide articulation to surgical tool tips is needed in natural orifice transluminal endoscopy surgery (NOTES). In this paper, we propose a compliant articulation structure that uses superelastic NiTiNOL to achieve a large deflection angle and force in a compact size.

Superelastic Polymer Aerogel with Superamphiphilicity

ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces
Elastic aerogels have become a research hot spot in both academia and industry recently. The reported elastic aerogels are all made of hard materials by controlling their shapes. Herein we report an elastic aerogel made of a polymer elastomer with entropy elasticity. In the aerogel, cross-linked carboxyl nitrile rubber nanoparticles with hydrophilicity
