Humidity‐driven shape morphing enhances fog harvesting in porous cactus spines

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Spine straightening and water collection during fog exposure in Turbinicarpus alonsoi. Summary Cacti develop spines instead of conventional leaves, which often serve as mechanical defence against herbivores. However, some cactus species grow porous and flexible spines, suggesting fundamentally different functions.

Arterial–venous differences of brain‐derived neurotrophic factor isoforms across the brain and muscle after exercise at different intensities

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Exercise‐induced increases in forearm venous plasma and serum brain‐derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) are often assumed to be indicative of release from the brain. Sixteen healthy and physically fit adults (20–40 years old) were recruited to investigate whether exercise‐induced changes in forearm venous mature BDNF (mBDNF) and ...

Physiological mechanisms underlying enhanced performance with blood flow restriction training: neuromuscular, vascular and metabolic adaptations

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend We investigated how 6 weeks of dynamic knee‐extensor interval training with blood flow restriction (BFR‐leg) and without (CTRL‐leg) impacts performance and its mechanisms using non‐invasive methods. Specifically, we used gold‐standard methods to assess neuromuscular function, vascular function using Doppler ultrasound, and near ...

Marked C‐tactile afferent suppression by a plastic film does not proportionately diminish pleasantness of gentle brushing

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Human skin contains several classes of mechanoreceptive afferents that encode mechanical stimulation. For example, C‑tactile (CT) afferents are suggested to signal the pleasant aspects of gentle touch and are activated effectively by slow brushing of hairy skin.

High‐throughput, high‐fidelity reconstruction of whole mouse‐heart cytoarchitecture at cellular scale

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Experimental workflow of the dual‐camera light‐sheet microscope (dual‐mesoSPIM) pipeline. Intact adult mouse hearts undergo CUBIC‐based delipidation and refractive‐index matching, rendering the whole organ optically transparent (left).

Surface Functionalization of Hexagonal WO3 for Enhanced Pseudocapacitive Energy Storage

open access: yesAdvanced Energy and Sustainability Research, Volume 7, Issue 11, November 2026.
Hydrothermal surface functionalization of hexagonal tungsten oxide nanoparticles with N‐ and S‐containing groups unlocks enhanced pseudocapacitive energy storage. Functionalized electrodes deliver higher specific capacitance and superior cycling stability, with sulfate‐modified WO3 exhibiting the best electrochemical performance.

Severe ADEM‐Like Neuroinflammatory Disease and Cerebrovascular Fragility With Recurrent Pseudoaneurysms and Moyamoya in a Familial Germline CBL Mutation: Expanding the Clinical Phenotype

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, Volume 200, Issue 11, Page 2568-2574, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Heterozygous germline variants in CBL disrupt its function as a negative regulator of the Ras/MAPK pathway, classically predisposing to Juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia (JMML) and moyamoya. We describe two affected siblings carrying a paternally inherited CBL variant (c.1210 T> C, p.

Guillain‐Barré Syndrome in Late Pregnancy Following Respiratory Syncytial Virus Infection: A Diagnostic Dilemma

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 11, November 2026.
ABSTRACT The diagnosis of Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS) relies on evolving clinical features, supported by cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), laboratory investigations, and electrodiagnostic studies. Early investigations may be nondiagnostic and should not delay treatment when progressive neurological deterioration raises clinical suspicion of GBS.
