Differential color responses from the superior colliculi of squirrel monkeys

Vision Research, 1966
Abstract Color sensitivity of the superior colliculi was investigated in squirrel monkeys. Evoked potentials were recorded from the colliculi in response to red and blue light stimulation. Color sensitivity of the superior colliculus was indicated by: differences in latency of potentials evoked by different color stimuli, differences in amplitude of ...

Scrapie inoculation of mice: light and electron microscopy of the superior colliculi

Acta Neuropathologica, 1991
Ultrastructural examination of the superior colliculi of mice intraocularly inoculated with the ME7 strain of scrapie showed vacuolation early in the course of infection. Brains were examined between 85-260 days after monocular inoculation with scrapie. The mean incubation period for the development of clinical disease was 302 days.

Spatiotemporal patterns of ontogenetic expression of parvalbumin in the superior colliculi of rats and rabbits

The Journal of Comparative Neurology, 1998
We have examined the development of parvalbumin immunoreactivity in the superior colliculi (SC) of the perinatal and mature rats and rabbits. In mature animals, parvalbumin-expressing cells (PECs) and neuropil in the retinorecipient layers were distributed in a continuous single band extending throughout the entire extent of the colliculus, whereas ...

The influence of activation of the superior colliculi on convulsive activity during picrotoxin kindling

Neuroscience and Behavioral Physiology, 1993
It has been demonstrated in experiments in rats in which kindling was induced by repeated subconvulsive doses of picrotoxin (1.0 mg/kg) that the bilateral microinjection of picrotoxin, bicuculline, and penicillin into the deep layers of the superior colliculi of the corpora quadrigemina leads to the appearance of a generator of pathologically ...

Convergence of Y and non-Y channels onto single neurons in the superior colliculi of the cat

Neuroreport, 2001
Receptive field properties of single neurons in the cat superior colliculus were examined following selective conduction-block of Y-type fibers in contralateral optic nerve. Although the responses evoked by photic stimuli presented via the Y-blocked eye were significantly weaker than those evoked by stimuli presented via the normal eye, > 85% of ...

Inhibition of Labyrinthine Nystagmus by Visual Fixation: Effects of Ablation of Visual Cortex and Superior Colliculi

Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, 1979
A study was conducted to destroy two specific areas of the cat's visual system in order to determine if these lesions would affect the visual inhibition of calorically-induced vestibular nystagmus. The occipital visual cortex was removed in eight cats and the superior colliculi were removed bilaterally in nine cats.

Some Observations on the Superior Colliculi of the Cat by J. Altman

1961
The observations I should like to communicate to you in this discussion on the optic tectum were made by Dr. Joseph Altman in the course of his work for a doctoral dissertation2. Dr. Joseph Altman undertook these studies for three reasons: 1. Just as Professor Doty, he believes that the optic tectum may play a greater role in the visually-guided

[Facial motor responses to microstimulation of the superior colliculi in the white mouse].

Zhurnal evoliutsionnoi biokhimii i fiziologii, 1989
Facial motor responses to microstimulation of different zones of the superior colliculi have been investigated in the albino mice craniotomized under thiopental anaesthesia. Local responses of the mystacial vibrissae, upper lip and eyelids were initiated by microstimulation of the rostral parts of the inner layers of the colliculus superior (high ...

Origin and terminal distribution of the trigeminal projections to the inferior and superior colliculi in the lesser hedgehog tenrec

European Journal of Neuroscience, 1998
AbstractThe trigemino‐tectal projections were investigated with anterograde and retrograde tracing techniques in the Madagascan lesser hedgehog tenrec, Echinops telfairi. There were prominent contralateral projections to the inferior colliculus (CoI) and the superior colliculus (CoS), each showing its own characteristic pattern of terminations.
