Local Structure and Vacancy Distribution in Transition Metal Carbides: Results From High‐Resolution 13C NMR Spectroscopy

The local carbon environment in the refractory transition metal carbides ZrC, HfC, NbC, and TaC was studied using high‐resolution magic angle spinning 13C NMR spectroscopy. Results show that carbon nuclei with next nearest neighbor vacant sites or oxygen/nitrogen impurities are distinguishable through 13C NMR, and that the technique can be used to ...
