Optimal Simple Ratings

open access: yesThe Journal of Industrial Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We study optimal simple rating systems that partition sellers into a finite number of tiers. We show that optimal ratings must be threshold partitions, and that for linear supply and Cournot competition with constant marginal cost, optimal thresholds solve a k‐means clustering problem requiring only the quality distribution.

Shaping the System Through Turbulence: Strategic Leadership and the Micro‐Foundations of Ecosystem Orchestration in Times of Disruption

open access: yesJournal of Management Studies, EarlyView.
Abstract While research on ecosystems and their orchestration has grown rapidly, we still know little about how individual strategic leaders may mobilize ecosystemic action in times of disruption. This article addresses this gap by drawing on an in‐depth case study of the Antwerp Square Mile, the world’s oldest and most renowned diamond trading ...

Reconsidering Volume‐Based Drug Procurement Policy: The Consequences of Manufacturers' Optimal Production Planning and Breach Strategies

open access: yesNaval Research Logistics (NRL), Volume 73, Issue 5, Page 743-763, August 2026.
ABSTRACT This paper examines the impacts of Volume‐Based Procurement (VBP) policies on pharmaceutical supply chains, with a focus on the strategic behaviors of manufacturers. VBP aims to reduce costs and stabilize supplies by centralizing procurement through competition based on volumes and prices.

The Weak Core, Partition‐Based Universal Stability, and Their Risk Associations Through A Partial Order

open access: yesNaval Research Logistics (NRL), Volume 73, Issue 5, Page 810-835, August 2026.
ABSTRACT We are concerned with the stability of a transferable‐utility cooperative (TU) game. First, the concept of core can be weakened so that the blocking of changes is limited to only those with multilateral backings. This principle of consensual blocking, as well as the traditional core‐defining one of unilateral blocking and one straddling in ...

Robust Bernoulli Mixture Models for Credit Portfolio Risk

open access: yesMathematical Finance, Volume 36, Issue 3, Page 528-543, July 2026.
ABSTRACT This paper presents comparison results and establishes risk bounds for credit portfolios within classes of Bernoulli mixture models, assuming conditionally independent defaults that are stochastically increasing in a common risk factor. We provide simple and interpretable conditions on conditional default probabilities that imply a comparison ...

Interplay between Platform Providers and Complementors via Affordance, Autonomy, and Super-Modularity: The Empirical Investigation of the Korean Digital Industry

open access: yesJournal of Theoretical and Applied Electronic Commerce Research
This study examines the dynamic interplay between platform providers and complementors in the context of digital ecosystems, focusing on the complementary factors of affordance, autonomy, and super-modularity.

News media as suppliers of narratives (and information)

open access: yesTheoretical Economics, Volume 21, Issue 3, Page 928-972, July 2026.
We present a model in which news media shape beliefs by providing information (signals about an exogenous state) and narratives (models of what determines outcomes). To amplify consumers' engagement, the media maximize their anticipatory utility. We characterize the optimal monopolistic media strategy, highlighting the synergy between false narratives ...

Efficient investment, search, and sorting in matching markets

open access: yesTheoretical Economics, Volume 21, Issue 3, Page 810-848, July 2026.
We study markets where heterogeneous agents first make investment decisions and then engage in a costly search to form productive matches. The trading process is a random search and bargaining with explicit search costs. Despite potential hold‐up and matching problems, we prove that the constrained efficient allocation is an equilibrium: the agents ...

Buyer‐Optimal Platform Design

open access: yesThe RAND Journal of Economics, Volume 57, Issue 2, Page 285-299, Summer 2026.
ABSTRACT A platform matches a unit mass of sellers, each owning a single product of heterogeneous quality, to a unit mass of buyers with differing valuations for unit‐quality. After matching, sellers make take‐it‐or‐leave‐it price‐offers to buyers. Initially, valuations of buyers are only known to them and the platform, but sellers make inferences from
