On the equivalence of superordinate concepts
Cognition, 1996Psychological studies of superordinates have generally treated them as equivalent. However, many languages distinguish mass superordinates (e.g., clothing) from count superordinates (e.g., vehicle). In the present paper, experimental evidence is presented which suggests that the two types of superordinates are conceptually distinct as well.

Operativity and the superordinate categorization of artifacts
Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1992Relations between typical and atypical exemplars of superordinate categories are low in figurative similarity, i.e., similarity based in appearance or in spatial/temporal context. Operativity, as an emergent competence to overcome figurative cues and establish nonfigurative relations, might be expected to contribute to superordinate categorization. The

Climate change as superordinate curriculum?
Research in Education, 2023Despite being one of the largest carbon emitters in the world, the United States has little direct emphasis on climate change in its schools. Even where there is desire to teach climate change, the politicization of climate change sees school leaders steering teachers away from the topic.

The Initiation of Superordinate Goals
The Journal of Applied Behavioral Science, 1969The following is an exploratory study comparing the initiation of two types of superordinate goals in a highly competitive, nonzero-sum bargaining situation. One superordinate goal was introduced by a third party, was perceived by the participants as a natural event not linked to or created by the third party, and was not perceived by the bargainers in

Subordinants of differential superordinations
Complex Variables, Theory and Application: An International Journal, 2003Let Ω be any set in the complex plane ℂ, let p be analytic in the unit disk U and let ψ (r, s, t; z). In this article we consider the problem of determining properties of functions p that satisfy the differential superordination Ω ⊂ {ψ(p(z), z 2 p"(z);z)|z ∈ U}.

Retrieval of superordinates and subordinates.
Journal of Experimental Psychology, 1974Semantic memory retrieval was investigated in 2 experiments. In the first experiment, 5s were shown a category name and asked to respond with a word belonging to the category (for one block of trials) or a class to which the category name belonged (for another block of trials).

Superordinate genre conventions
Poetics, 1981Abstract Superordinate genre conventions — conventions prescribing that we interpret, and sometimes that we react to, fictional worlds differently from nonfictional — are explained within a theory that distinguishes interpretation (an act by which we go from observation of a sign to its interpretation by means of relevant beliefs) from reaction (any ...

ERP correlates of superordinate category activation
International Journal of Psychophysiology, 2009The human semantic network is hierarchically organized, containing superordinate, basic and subordinate levels. Various impairments are thought to be connected with abnormal access to superordinate concepts. We devised an ERP paradigm to examine the activation of superordinate versus otherwise related concepts in 20 healthy participants.

Resolving conflict: superordinate goals and careful communication
BMJ, 2021I agree with David Oliver’s comments.1 The covid-19 pandemic has put immense strain on both primary and secondary care provision in a system that was already under pressure. Unfortunately, primary and secondary care continue to exist in silos, with management and funding structures limiting collaboration.

The EU as superordinate brand origin: an entitativity perspective
International Marketing Review, 2017Purpose Drawing from the entitativity theory, the purpose of this paper is to focus on the European Union (EU) as a superordinate entity and investigate the extent to which a “Made-in-EU” designation leads to superior/inferior brand evaluations and through them to higher/lower purchase intentions than different country-specific designations.
