The falling weight deflectometer (FWD) is a widely used nondestructive test (NDT) device in pavement infrastructure. A FWD test measures the surface deflections subjected to an applied impact loading and the modulus of pavement layers can be determined ...

Collapsing a perfect superposition to a chosen quantum state without measurement. [PDF]
Given a perfect superposition of [Formula: see text] states on a quantum system of [Formula: see text] qubits. We propose a fast quantum algorithm for collapsing the perfect superposition to a chosen quantum state [Formula: see text] without applying any

Cut blasting creates new free surfaces that facilitate rock breaking and reduces blast vibration. However, the time when the new free surface is formed is not clear in on-site blasting practices.

Quantum-gravity effects could in principle be witnessed in neutrino-like oscillations
Two of us (Marletto and Vedral 2017 Phys. Rev. Lett . 119 240402) recently showed how the quantum character of a physical system, in particular the gravitational field, can in principle be witnessed without directly measuring observables of that system ...

Description of classical and quantum interference in view of the concept of flow line
Bohmian mechanics, a hydrodynamic formulation of quantum mechanics, relies on the concept of trajectory, which evolves in time in compliance with dynamical information conveyed by the wave function.

Principle of the overlay deformations in the theory of creep
The aim of the research is to justify in the non-linear statement the overlay principle of fraction creep deformation, known in the linear creep theory as Bolzmann’s principle of superposition. Methods.

A Class of PDEs with Nonlinear Superposition Principles [PDF]
Through assuming that nonlinear superposition principles (NLSPs) are embedded in a Lie group, a class of 3rd‐order PDEs is derived from a general determining equation that determine the invariant group. The corresponding NLSPs and transformation to linearize the nonlinear PDE are found, hence the governing PDE is proved C‐integrable.
