Supplementary cementitious materials comprising dredged sediments

open access: yes, 2018
A supplementary cementitious material used in combination with an activator such as Portland cement to produce a hydraulic binder. The supplementary cementitious material is based on physico-chemically treated filter cake product extracted from dredged ...

USE OF SEWAGE SLUDGE ASH IN CEMENTITIOUS MATERIALS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The potential for using sewage sludge ash (SSA) in cement mortars and concrete is reviewed. The chemical and physical properties and pozzolanic activity of a range of different incinerated SSA samples indicates the potential to exploit the pozzolanic ...

Mechanism and disaster control new technology of strong ground pressure manifestation in ultra‐large mining face

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
In response to the problem of strong mining pressure manifestation along the goaf roadway in a thick coal seam mining area, this study uses a new type of combined blasting roof cutting technology to effectively control the manifestation and deformation of mining pressure along the goaf roadway.

Predicting the degree of reaction of supplementary cementitious materials in cementitious pastes using a pozzolanic test

open access: yes, 2019
•Pozzolanic test was used to develop two measures for SCM degree of reaction.•Degree of reaction increases as temperature increases but does not depend on w/cm.•Values generally agree with those from literature.•Preliminary results are promising.

Dynamic response at the terminus of oblique intersecting joints subjected to stress waves

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study derives the propagation equation for stress waves impinging upon nonlinear oblique intersecting joints. It analyzes the dynamic response at the terminus of nonlinear oblique intersecting joints subjected to stress waves. Abstract To investigate the dynamic response at the terminus of oblique intersecting joints subjected to stress waves, a ...

Carbon emission assessment of tunnel infrastructures: From construction to operation

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study develops a lifecycle carbon accounting framework for tunnel infrastructures, covering design, construction, operation, maintenance, and dismantling. Applied to a subsea tunnel case, the framework reveals the carbon emission distribution among four typical tunnel types and highlights potential carbon offset methods for low‐carbon tunnel ...

Upper bound limit analysis of coral reef limestone cavern roof stability incorporating a tension‐shear failure mechanism with tensile‐strength cut‐off

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
For the roof of coral reef limestone caverns, a novel tension‐shear composite failure mechanism was developed. The most critical tensile crack model was identified using a hybrid optimization algorithm, and the stability of the cavern roof was analyzed accordingly.

Uniaxial compressive strength prediction and ratio parameter optimization of titanium tailings composite backfill materials using intelligent hybrid models

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Based on the 90 datasets, ERT and four optimization algorithms were used to build four hybrid models to predict the UCS of the backfill body. The SMA‐ERT model was the most effective model, and it can reliably guide the design of the backfill ratio parameters. Abstract This study analyzed the feasibility of using titanium (Ti) tailings as a backfilling
