Support Size Estimation: The Power of Conditioning
We consider the problem of estimating the support size of a distribution $D$. Our investigations are pursued through the lens of distribution testing and seek to understand the power of conditional sampling (denoted as COND), wherein one is allowed to query the given distribution conditioned on an arbitrary subset $S$.

Support sizes of triple systems
The support size of a triple system \(\text{TS}(v,\lambda)\) of order \(v\) and index \(\lambda\) is the number of distinct triples. The set \(\text{SS}(v,\lambda)\) of possible support sizes in a \(\text{TS}(v,\lambda)\) is determined for all \(v\) and all \(\lambda\), except that it reamins undecided whether (1) \(s\in\text{SS}(14,6)\) for \(s=45,46 ...

In this study, low cost ceramic supports were prepared from kaolin via phase inversion technique with two kaolin particle sizes, which are 0.04–0.6 μm (denoted as type A) and 10–15 μm (denoted as type B), at different kaolin contents ranging from 14 to ...

Vibration of submillimeter-size supported droplets
We study the fundamental vibration mode of supported submillimeter-size droplets. Using an analogy with a simple oscillator we derive a semianalytical expression for the eigenfrequency and the scaling law of the energy dissipation within the droplet. The experimental results obtained for mercury drops deposited on glass are compared with the model. The

The main purpose of blasting operation is to produce desired and optimum mean size rock fragments. Smaller or fine fragments cause the loss of ore during loading and transportation, whereas large or coarser fragments need to be further processed, which ...

Geographic body size variation in ectotherms: effects of seasonality on an anuran from the southern temperate forest [PDF]
Indexación: Web of Science; Scopus. Background: Body size variation has played a central role in biogeographical research, however, most studies have aimed to describe trends rather than search for underlying mechanisms.

Mass-mediated sex differences in climbing patterns support the gravity hypothesis of sexual size dimorphism [PDF]
The gravity hypothesis of sexual size dimorphism can explain the patterns of extreme sexual size dimorphism in spiders (males smaller than females) because small males climb faster and therefore may be better at reaching females that live in high ...
