Supracondylar humerus fracture in children: K wire pinning with minimal sterile technique [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
A minimal sterile technique to assess the outcome of K wire pinning of Supracondylar fracture of humerus in children. A prospective case series between 2018 to 2020 was conducted on 10 supracondylar fracture of humerus operated at a tertiary care centre.

Functional Morphology of the Thoracic Limb in the Silky Anteater (Cyclopes didactylus): A Comparative Study With Tamandua tetradactyla

open access: yesActa Zoologica, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The order Xenarthra presents unique morphophysiological adaptations related to its specialized ecological niches. This study investigates the functional morphology and comparative myology of the thoracic limb in Cyclopes didactylus (silky anteater) and Tamandua tetradactyla (southern tamandua) to elucidate how muscle arrangements support ...

A study on supracondylar spur (process) of humerus - a case report

open access: yesNational Journal of Clinical Anatomy, 2014
The supracondylar spur of humerus is one of the rare anatomic variation of distal end of humerus. The overall incidence is 0.3-2.7 % of the general population, here the authors report a case of supracondylar spur of humerus that was observed during a ...

Bilateral Supracondylar Humerus Fracture in an Infant - A Rare Case Report and Review of Literature

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Orthopaedics
Supracondylar humerus fractures are the most common elbow injuries seen in the pediatric population. Predominantly they are unilateral injuries, and bilateral injuries are exceedingly rare.

Updating the forelimb anatomy of the domestic cat (Felis catus, Felidae) based on evolutionary inferences of its muscles and nerves I: Shoulder and brachium

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
In this study, we provide a detailed description of the shoulder and brachium muscles and the brachial plexus of the domestic cat (Felis catus). We identified muscular variants (articularis humeri, coracobrachialis longus, biceps brachii caput breve), clarified the independence of the anconeus medialis muscle from the triceps brachii muscle, and ...

Assessment of Instant Loss of Elbow Flexion in Children with Untreated Gartland IIA Humeral Supracondylar Fractures—A Simulation Study with Lateral Elbow Radiographs

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, 2023
Objective The suitability of in situ cast fixation for treating Gartland IIA humeral supracondylar fractures has remained controversial due to concerns regarding loss of elbow flexion.

Morphological study of the supratrochlear foramen in Canis lupus ssp.

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
The supratrochlear foramen (STF) is a common anatomical feature in the humeri of dogs and wolves. This study shows that the STF exhibits a consistent shape and position in dogs and wolves, suggesting a common morphological pattern; however, it was less frequent in smaller dog humeri, and its size correlated with humeral dimensions, suggesting that ...

Salter-Harris I fracture of the distal humerus in a neonate: imaging appearance of radiographs, ultrasound, and arthrography

open access: yesRadiology Case Reports, 2017
Neonatal Salter-Harris I fractures of the distal humerus are a rare injury. This injury can be easily mistaken for a posterior elbow dislocation, creating a delay in diagnosis. We present a case of a neonate with a distal humerus Salter-Harris I fracture

Modelling compressive loading in large‐bodied mammals reveals distinct biomechanical strategies in proboscidean humeri

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
Graviportal proboscideans differ in limb morphology, adopting slender or more robust long bone morphotypes. Finite element analyses (FEA) on extant and extinct taxa reveal functional differences between morphotypes, with robust humeri exhibiting lower peak stress under neutral and off‐axis loading.
