Supramolecular synthons in crystal engineering. Structure simplification, synthon robustness and supramolecular retrosynthesis

Chemical Communications, 1996
The analogy between crystal engineering and traditional organic synthesis is outlined with reference to a family of crystal structures which incorporate iodo⋯nitro and carboxyl dimmer supramolecular synthons.

Investigations of Metal-Coordinated Peptides as Supramolecular Synthons

The Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2006
This article describes the synthesis and controlled assembly of four model biological-hybrid scaffolds via coordination of a metal complex to four new tripeptides. Each model tripeptide investigated has either a central pyridyl glycyl or a pyridyl alanyl residue between two terminally protected glycines.

Development and boundaries in the field of supramolecular synthons

CrystEngComm, 2010
The theme of supramolecular synthons runs through all disciplines of crystal engineering. The concept of supramolecular synthons has received ever increasing attention in various fields since it was defined and introduced in 1997. This trend is manifest in the exploding number of articles published, and not only in the specialised journals, Crystal ...

Supramolecular synthons in phenol–isonicotinamide adducts

CrystEngComm, 2003
Molecular complexes of four phenols (hydroquinone, resorcinol, phloroglucinol and 4-hydroxybenzoic acid) with isonicotinamide are characterized by X-ray diffraction. (Hydroquinone)0.5·(isonicotinamide) 1 and (resorcinol)·(isonicotinamide)22 have tapes of O–H⋯N and amide N–H⋯O dimer synthons.

Supramolecular Synthons and Pattern Recognition

1998
The aims of crystal engineering are the understanding of intermolecular interactions and their application in the design of crystal structures with specific architectures and properties. In general, all types of crystal structures may be considered but this article is limited to organic molecular solids.

Selenadiazolopyridine: A Synthon for Supramolecular Assembly and Complexes with Metallophilic Interactions

Inorganic Chemistry, 2012
The synthesis and characterization of the complexes of Cu(I), Ag(I), Cu(II), and Co(II) ions with 1,2,5-selenadiazolopyridine (psd) is reported. The following complexes have been prepared: [Cu(2)(psd)(3)(CH(3)CN)(2)](2+)2(PF(6)(-)); [(CuCl)(2)(psd)(3)]; [Cu(2)(psd)(6)](2+)2(ClO(4))(-); [Ag(2)(psd)(2)](2+)2(NO(3))(-); [Ag(2)(psd)(2)](2+)2(CF(3)COO)(-); [

Cooperative effects on the formation of supramolecular synthons of thiohydantoin derivatives

Journal of Computational Methods in Sciences and Engineering, 2014
In this paper we study the manifestations of cooperative effects in the formation of supramolecular synthons observed in some thiohydantoin derivatives crystals. Energetic and structural properties were analyzed from the fully optimized clusters employing a DFT/B3LYP level of calculations, which reproduce the main features of the stereochemistry and ...

Supramolecular Synthons: Validation and Ranking of Intermolecular Interaction Energies

Crystal Growth & Design, 2012
Building upon Desiraju’s concept of a supramolecular synthon, we have calculated cohesive energies and thermal stabilities of molecular systems related to the proposed synthons. The method employed is PIXEL, which allows reliable and extensive mapping of intermolecular surfaces. Comparisons with accurate ab initio calculations are included.

Supramolecular Synthons in Bumetanide Cocrystals and Ternary Products

Crystal Growth & Design, 2017
A novel design strategy for cocrystals of the diuretic sulfonamide drug bumetanide (BUM) with carboxamides is reported based on reliable supramolecular synthons. Binary cocrystals of BUM with pyridine carboxamides, pyridones, and cytosine were obtained by solvent-assisted grinding followed by solution crystallization.
