Suprascapular nerve entrapment syndrome caused by a spinoglenoid notch cyst with a concomitant giant lipoma: a case report [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Surgery
BackgroundSuprascapular nerve entrapment is a cause of shoulder pain and dysfunction, often complicated by symptomatic overlap with other shoulder pathologies.

Variations in the Shape and Dimension of the Suprascapular Notch in Dried Human Scapula-An Osteological Study with its Clinical Implications [PDF]

open access: goldInternational Journal of Anatomy Radiology and Surgery, 2016
Introduction: The suprascapular notch is a depression on the superior border of scapula which gives passage to the suprascapular nerve to enter the supraspinatus fossa. During its course there is a chance of entrapment of the nerve while in the notch

Morphometric study of suprascapular notch and scapular dimensions in Ugandan dry scapulae with specific reference to the incidence of completely ossified superior transverse scapular ligament [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, 2020
Background Understanding of suprascapular notch (SSN) anatomy and relationship with scapular dimensions are vital in diagnosis, prevention, and assessment of suprascapular nerve entrapment syndrome.

Correlation of suprascapular notch morphology with suprascapular neuropathy and rotator cuff tear patterns: MRI data [PDF]

open access: diamondTravmatologiâ i Ortopediâ Rossii
Background. Suprascapular nerve neuropathy combined with massive rotator cuff tears presents significant challenges in both diagnosis and treatment. Modern diagnostic methods allow for sufficiently accurate detection of neurological impairments.

Arthroscopic Suprascapular Nerve Decompression: A Technique Video [PDF]

open access: yesVideo Journal of Sports Medicine
Background: Suprascapular neuropathy is an uncommon but treatable cause of shoulder pain and dysfunction. The tortuous course of the suprascapular nerve puts it at risk for entrapment, particularly at the suprascapular and spinoglenoid notches.

Suprascapular Notch asymmetry: a study on 311 patients. [PDF]

open access: yesBiomed Res Int, 2014
The most important risk factor of suprascapular nerve entrapment is probably the shape of the suprascapular notch (SSN). The aim of the study was to perform a radiological study of the symmetry of SSN. Included in the study were 311 patients (137 women and 174 men) who underwent standard computed tomography investigation of the chest.

Open Suprascapular Nerve Decompression at the Spinoglenoid Notch

open access: yesArthroscopy Techniques
Suprascapular nerve (SSN) entrapment is a rare but significant cause of posterior shoulder pain and weakness. Compression of the nerve at the level of the spinoglenoid notch leads to weakness and atrophy of the infraspinatus. A detailed history and physical examination along with appropriate workup are paramount to arrive at this diagnosis.
