Atoroidal Surface Bundles Over Surfaces

Geometric and Functional Analysis, 2009
A `surface group' is the fundamental group of a closed orientable surface other than the 2-sphere. A `surface-by-surface group' is a group \(G\) with a normal subgroup \(N\), such that both \(N\) and \(G/N\) are surface groups. They are referred to as `fibre' and `base' groups, respectively.

Surfaces and surface metrology

International Journal of Precision Technology, 2013
This paper discusses manufacturing methods for surfaces of simple to freeform geometry and the need to control the form and surface topography. Measurement techniques for assessment of form error and surface topography are outlined. At the end, engineered surfaces are taken and examined in the same context.

Multiconic Surfaces

IBM Journal of Research and Development, 1975
Multiconic surfaces are a generalization of the type of surface called polyconic in numerical control of machine tools. The general theory is developed in this paper using a new parametrization. In the original form there was a problem as to whether or not a point that satisfies surface equations actually belonged to the intended surface.

Surface Dyslexia

The Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology Section A, 1983
Two cases of surface dyslexia are described. In this disorder, irregular words such as broad or steak are less likely to be read aloud correctly than regularly-spelled words like breed or steam; and when irregular words are misread the incorrect response is often a regularisation (reading broad as “brode” and steak as “steek, for example).

Implant Surfaces

Dental Clinics of North America, 2006
Available in many shapes, sizes, and lengths, dental implants are also crafted from different materials with different surface proper-ties. Among the most desired characteristics of an implant are those that ensure that the tissue-implant interface will be established quickly and then will be firmly maintained.

Quasicrystal Surfaces

Annual Review of Physical Chemistry, 2008
Studies of ordered, yet nonperiodic, metallic alloys known as quasicrystals have generated exciting questions and fundamental insights about the relationship between surface atomic structure and surface properties. In this review, I give examples from oxidation, friction, heterogeneous catalysis, and solid film growth, in which the Al-rich ...

Surface Osteosarcoma

Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1991
Osteosarcoma arising on the periosteal aspect of bone comprises a biologically heterogeneous group of neoplasms. The group as a whole may be referred to by a single descriptive term that emphasizes their common site of origin and underscores their malignant osteogenic potential: surface osteosarcoma.
