Managing ocular surface disease: a common sense approach
Many diseases can cause ocular surface disorders. The poster on pages 50–51 provides an overview of the most common diseases, and other articles in this issue focus on the management of individual diseases. In this article, the authors offer a systematic

A mapping approach to surface hopping
We present a nonadiabatic classical-trajectory approach that offers the best of both worlds between fewest-switches surface hopping (FSSH) and quasiclassical mapping dynamics. This mapping approach to surface hopping (MASH) propagates the nuclei on the active adiabatic potential-energy surface, such as in FSSH.

A Supramolecular Approach to Antimicrobial Surfaces
In this paper, we report on the preparation of Imidazole-functionalized glass surfaces, demonstrating the ability of a dinuclear Cu(II) complex of a macrocyclic ligand to give a “cascade” interaction with the deprotonated forms of grafted imidazole moieties.

A Varifold Approach to Surface Approximation [PDF]
We show that the theory of varifolds can be suitably enriched to open the way to applications in the field of discrete and computational geometry. Using appropriate regularizations of the mass and of the first variation of a varifold we introduce the notion of approximate mean curvature and show various convergence results that hold in particular for ...

Surface profile prediction and analysis applied to turning process [PDF]
An approach for the prediction of surface profile in turning process using Radial Basis Function (RBF) neural networks is presented. The input parameters of the RBF networks are cutting speed, depth of cut and feed rate.

A predictive surface profile model for turning based on spectral analysis [PDF]
This article presents a predictive approach of surface topography based on the FFT analysis of surface profiles. From a set of experimental machining tests, the parameters investigated are: feed per revolution, insert nose radius, depth of cut and ...

Surface roughness prediction in milling based on tool displacements [PDF]
In this paper, an experimental device using non-contact displacement sensors for the investigation of milling tool behaviour is presented. It enables the recording of high frequency tool vibrations during milling operations.

Progressive surface modeling scheme from unorganised curves [PDF]
This paper presents a novel surface modelling scheme to construct a freeform surface progressively from unorganised curves representing the boundary and interior characteristic curves.

Ultrasonic approach for surface nanostructuring
The review is about solid surface modifications by cavitation induced in strong ultrasonic fields. The topic is worth to be discussed in a special issue of surface cleaning by cavitation induced processes since it is important question if we always find surface cleaning when surface modifications occur, or vice versa.

Pre-evaluation on surface profile in turning process based on cutting parameters [PDF]
Traditional online or in-process surface profile (quality) evaluation (prediction) needs to integrate cutting parameters and several in-process factors (vibration, machine dynamics, tool wear, etc) for high accuracy.
