Surface Diffusion Currents and the Universality Classes of Growth

Physical Review Letters, 1993
We show, through simulations of a variety of one- and two-dimensional solid-on-solid models, that nonequilibrium surface diffusion processes in the presence of a deposition flux are generically characterized by a nonvanishing inclination-dependent mass current along the surface.

Magnetic field of cylindrical surface currents

Proceedings of the IEEE, 1988
Infinite surfaces carrying surface currents with translational symmetry in one direction are considered. When the magnetic field is treated as a bivector quantity rather than an axial vector quantity, its simple relation to the plane visual angle of the surface becomes easy to establish by means of the Biot-Savart law.

MEASUREMENT OF THE SURFACE CURL OF THE SURFACE CURRENT DENSITY

Electromagnetics, 1986
ABSTRACT It is commonplace to measure the surface divergence of the surface current density on a perfectly conducting object. This is related to the surface charge density, or the normal electric field. This paper explores the measurement or a complementary quantity, the surface curl of the surface current density which can be related to an equivalent ...

Surface Current Theory

Abstract This chapter deals with the case of a single electron travelling above just one period of a perfectly conducting metallic grating. The charge density distribution induced on the surface is derived and discussed in some detail, and the emitted radiation is attributed to the acceleration of this surface charge distribution.

Near-surface current measurements

Deep Sea Research and Oceanographic Abstracts, 1976
Abstract Near-surface current measurements made in the JASIN '72 (Joint Air-Sea Interaction) experiment have been intercompared. There is close agreement between the measurements of a 10-m VACM (Vector averaging current meter) under a toroid moored in 2500 m of water and of 12-m drifters tracked from a ship: differences were only 2 cm s −1 in ...

On surface drift currents in the ocean

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1979
A new model of surface drift currents is constructed using the full nonlinear equations of motion. This model includes the balance between Coriolis forces due to the mean and wave-induced motions and the surface wind stresses. The approach used in the analysis is similar to the work by Craik & Leibovich (1976) and Leibovich (1977), but the emphasis

Westward intensification of surface currents

1985
All the great civilizations of the past arose in lands protected from the cold, the eternal foe of life. It is true that more recent European civilization originated on a continent less endowed with the warmth of the Sun, but it, too, seemed to be protected from the pernicious breath of the north by an invisible friendly hand.
