DEFORMATIONS OF INSTANTON SURFACES

Mathematics of the USSR-Izvestiya, 1992
Summary: A solution is given for the problem of determining smoothness invariants on an algebraic surface from a nonsmooth compact moduli space of instantons. For this a study is made of the deformation of the instanton surface. The results are used to distinguish smoothness on certain algebraic surfaces.

Marangoni Convection With a Deformable Surface

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1994
Double diffusive convection is considered in a semi-infinite domain, bounded below by a solid surface and above by a gas interface. Temperature and concentration gradients are imposed normal to the free surface and the linear stability of the fluid is examined. Traditional analyses are extended to include the effects of a deformable free surface.

Space Deformations, Surface Deformations and the Opportunities In-Between

Journal of Computer Science and Technology, 2009
In recent years we have witnessed a large interest in surface deformation techniques. This has been a reaction that can be attributed to the ability to develop techniques which are detail-preserving. Space deformation techniques, on the other hand, received less attention, but nevertheless they have many advantages over surface-based techniques.

Identification of deformations on smooth surfaces

Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Computer Systems and Technologies, 2012
The work is dedicated to the discovering and estimation of local deformations on smooth surfaces of unknown shape. Stereo vision principle is used. The analyzed surface is illuminated by a structured light from a laser projector and an image of the surface is acquired by a photo camera. A 3D approximated object surface is computed and used to determine

Omnidirectional displacements for deformable surfaces

Medical Image Analysis, 2013
Deformable surface models are often represented as triangular meshes in image segmentation applications. For a fast and easily regularized deformation onto the target object boundary, the vertices of the mesh are commonly moved along line segments (typically surface normals).

Jamming on convex deformable surfaces

Soft Matter
We propose a new scenario, metric jamming, where particles rigidify on a deformable surface. The resulting states possess mechanical properties tunable between classically jammed and conventional elastic media and new types of mode that couple particle and shape degrees of freedom.

Surface deformations in Central Asia

Tectonophysics, 1986
Abstract Measurement of surface deformations caused by drift of the Indian tectonic plate against the Eurasian plate has been performed with short-range EDM-instruments in U.S.S.R. Central Asia. A relative motion of 1.5 cm/yr has been found. It has been shown that uncertainty in the refraction model used in derivation of the motion vectors plays a ...

Ray tracing deformed surfaces

Proceedings of the 13th annual conference on Computer graphics and interactive techniques, 1986
A collection of new methods for ray tracing differentiable surfaces is developed. The methods are general, and extend the set of "ray-traceable" surfaces suitable for use in geometric modeling. We intersect a ray l = at +

Harmonic Guidance for Surface Deformation

Computer Graphics Forum, 2005
We present an interactive method for applying deformations to a surface mesh while preserving its global shape and local properties. Two surface editing scenarios are discussed, which conceptually differ in the specification of deformations: Either interpolation constraints are imposed explicitly, e.g., by dragging a subset of vertices, or, deformation

Techniques and Applications of Deformable Surfaces

Scientific Visualization Conference (dagstuhl '97), 1997
This paper presents a technique for local surface extraction from scalar and vector fields using deformable surfaces. The goal of surface extraction is often to find features, or meaningful patterns in large datasets. To accomplish this, there is a wide spectrum of techniques.
