Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.

SLIME: A new deformable surface [PDF]

open access: yesProcedings of the British Machine Vision Conference 1994, 1994
Deformable surfaces have many applications in surface reconstruction, tracking and segmentation of range or volumetric data. Many existing deformable surfaces connect control points in a predefined and inflexible way. This means that the surface topology is fixed in advance, and also imposes severe limitations on how a surface can be described.
