Monitoring mining induced surface deformation

IEEE International IEEE International IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2004. IGARSS '04. Proceedings. 2004, 2004
There exists a significant demand for the monitoring of mining induced surface deformation for legal obligation safety, and environmental reasons. In recent years land surface deformation monitoring with SAR data reached some maturity. Nevertheless, there remain important limitations to the availability of the EO based information.

Real-time monitoring surface deformation in Indonesia

2023
Real-time monitoring of earthquake-triggered surface deformation is becoming required to characterize the effect of an earthquake, either transient or permanent deformation. Indonesia as a country located in the active deformation region, through Geospatial Information Agency (BIG) has built 397 Real-Time Global Navigation Satellite Systems (RT-GNSS ...

TerraSAR-X interferometry for surface deformation monitoring on periglacial area

2012 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2012
Arctic and mountainous periglacial areas are subject to intense freezing cycles and characterized by remarkable surface displacement. We used TerraSAR-X interferometry to analyze the seasonal surface displacement on two regions in Alaska and Switzerland.

Ultrafast extreme ultraviolet holography: dynamic monitoring of surface deformation

Optics Letters, 2007
We demonstrate femtosecond time-resolved dynamic Gabor holography using highly coherent extreme ultraviolet light generated by high harmonic upconversion of a femtosecond laser. By reflecting this light from an impulsively heated surface, we implement a simple and robust single-reflection geometry for phase-sensitive holographic detection at extreme UV

Role of Ground Surface Deformation in Volcano Monitoring

2014
What can be learned about the inner working of volcanoes by studying how they change shape or deform? What role does InSAR play in volcano deformation studies, and what other techniques are useful for studying deforming volcanoes? By what means and to what extent can volcanic eruptions and their impacts be forecast using deformation and other types of ...

Fundamentals of surface deformation and application to construction monitoring

Applied Geomatics, 2011
The rigorous approach to plane deformation developed by the author is extended to the case of curved surfaces and is applied to the monitoring of surface-like constructions by repeated surveys. From coordinates of discrete points at two survey epochs, interpolation of the displacements produces displacement functions expressed in terms of surface ...

A Rationale for the Acoustic Monitoring of Surface Deformation in Ti6Al4V Alloys during Machining

Advanced Engineering Materials, 2007
In this work acoustic monitoring was performed while machining Ti6Al4V with a variety of process parameters. The surface integrity of the components was characterized using microstructural examination and hardness and surface roughness measurements.

Passive Seismic and Surface Deformation Monitoring of Steam Injection

First EAGE Passive Seismic Workshop - Exploration and Monitoring Applications, 2006
Summary Microseismic imaging of a hydraulic fracture stimulation showed significant fracture reorientation across a thrust fault. Fracture orientations were identified through a combination of alignment of event locations, polarization of the seismic waves and injection details. Stimulation below the fault indicated a near horizontal fracture geometry.

A Distributed Scatterer Interferometry Approach for Precision Monitoring of Known Surface Deformation Phenomena

IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2014
This paper presents a new technique for mapping mean deformation velocity in highly decorrelated areas with known deformation patterns, exploiting high-resolution synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data. The implemented method is based on distributed scatterers and first makes use of the Anderson-Darling (AD) statistical test to identify homogenous patches
