SURFACE EFFECTS ON THE PHASE TRANSITIONS
International Journal of Modern Physics B, 1992The influence of the surface on the phase transitions is discussed. Classical models are reviewed and critically analyzed. Starting with a multilayer model, a new form of the surface energy is proposed. Our model predicts, contrary to previous models, a surface order parameter different from zero in a temperature range above the critical temperature ...

Insulator Surface and Radio Effects
Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1934Because of the rapid extension of police radio systems, and because both electric power lines and police cars occupy the highways, the problem of power line radio influence has acquired an added importance. Insulators coated with dirt, moisture, and hygroscopic salts have been found to cause radio disturbances at voltages much less than those For clean

Quantum Statistics of Surface Effect
Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, 1961The quantum mechanical behaviors of a dilute gas in a vessel with finite volume are considered with special reference to the surface effect. It is shown that the thermodynamic function of the system with weak interaction between particles can be expanded in terms of permutation rings with the use of M.

Rotational Effects on Surface Waves
Studies in Applied Mathematics, 1995In the classical theory of water waves only irrotational motions are considered. In the present paper a class of wave problems associated with inviscid rotational motions is examined and the consequences explored.

Surface effects in sulphidation reactions
Canadian Metallurgical Quarterly, 1990AbstractPure iron and an Fe–41 wt% Ni alloy are reacted at temperatures in the range 793–1073 K with H2–H2S–N2 atmospheres corresponding to equilibrium P S2 levels from 6.5 × 10−5 to 0.65 Pat The kinetics of iron sulfidation are intermediate in form to linear and parabolic rate laws.

Effects of pH on the Dentin Surface
Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry, 1992Amicroleakage and scanning electron microscope (SEM) study was conducted in order to investigate the effects of acidic primers on prepared dentin surfaces. The microleakage study revealed that no significant differences were noted between the five materials tested in regard to leakage at enamel and dentin margins.

The lectures I will give here will be based in the first instance on the thesis of one of my Cambridge students, Dr. John C. Inkson [1], which has been the source of a number of articles in the literature [2]. John’s work in turn leans heavily as far as formalism is concerned on some papers by D.M.
