Surface Tracking of MgO/Epoxy Nanocomposites: Effect of Surface Hydrophobicity

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
Surface tracking has been one of the challenges for outdoor organic insulations, in electronic and electrical devices. In this paper, surface tracking behavior of nano-MgO/epoxy composite samples were measured according to the standard IEC 60112 ...

Scanning Tunneling Microscope Operating as a Spin-diode

open access: yes, 2011
We theoretically investigate spin-polarized transport in a system composed of a ferromagnetic Scanning Tunneling Microscope (STM) tip coupled to an adsorbed atom (adatom) on a host surface. Electrons can tunnel directly from the tip to the surface or via

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Reduction of Subsidence and Large-Scale Rebound in the Beijing Plain after Anthropogenic Water Transfer and Ecological Recharge of Groundwater: Evidence from Long Time-Series Satellites InSAR

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Beijing, China’s capital city, has experienced decades of severe land subsidence due to the long-term overexploitation of groundwater. The implementation of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project (SNWDP) and artificial ecological restoration have ...

Monolayer oxide enhanced flow stress in nanoporous gold: the size dependence

open access: yesMaterials Research Letters, 2018
Compression of nanoporous gold in situ under electrochemical control reveals that its flow stress can be enhanced by surface coverage of monolayer oxide. Here we present a study on the monolayer oxide induced changes in flow stress of an nanoporous gold,

Pattern formation in crystal growth under parabolic shear flow

open access: yes, 2003
Morphological instability of the solid-liquid interface occuring in a crystal growing from an undercooled thin liquid being bounded on one side by a free surface and flowing down inclined plane is investigated by a linear stability analysis under shear ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These
