On vibrations of functionally graded viscoelastic nanobeams with surface effects
International Journal of Engineering Science, 2018This paper addresses the size-dependent free vibration of functionally graded viscoelastic (FGV) nanobeams including the simultaneous effects of the microstructure rotation and surface energy for the first time. Employing the Bernoulli–Euler beam theory,

Effects of nanoscale surface corrugation on surface-to-surface effective potential
Microfluidics and Nanofluidics, 2012In this paper, we present a systematic statistical mechanical study of a solvent-mediated interaction potential (SMIP) between two substrate surfaces patterned with nanoscale corrugations. The investigation reveals that various parameters of periodic corrugations as of period, amplitude, and phase difference provide us with a simple means of tuning the

Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, 1999
The author studies the waveguide properties of one-dimensional periodic surfaces and interfaces. It is established that all surfaces, on which the Neyman condition is satisfied, possess the wave property, namely, they are waveguides. The existence of a region of missing the frequences localized in zero neighbourhood is called the phenomenon of ...

Surface States, Surface Effects
1995It has been stated already that PES, because of the small escape depth of the electrons in a solid, in principle, is a surface sensitive technique. However, the agreement found in the preceding chapter between calculated and experimental bulk band structures was remarkable.

The Surface Photoelectric Effect
Physical Review, 1949An expression is derived for the photoelectric current produced at the surface of a metal, the conduction electrons being supposed free and the potential barrier of arbitrary shape. The validity of the common assumption that the current arising from conduction electrons of a particular momentum can be expressed as the product of an excitation function ...

Effect of surface tension on alveolar surface area
Journal of Applied Physiology, 2002At fixed lung volume (Vl), alterations in surface tension change alveolar surface area (S) and lung recoil (Pl). Wilson (26), using data from fixed lungs (1, 9), quantified the isovolume change in S with Pl. We reexamined this question in fresh excised rabbit lungs, with two important differences.

Surface dyslexia: A regression effect?
Brain and Language, 1985Although the disorder of acquired surface dyslexia is considered as a pathological syndrome in the psycholinguistic and neuropsychological literature, it may also be conceived of as part of a general regression in functioning consequent upon brain damage.

Surface effects in sulphidation reactions
Canadian Metallurgical Quarterly, 1990AbstractPure iron and an Fe–41 wt% Ni alloy are reacted at temperatures in the range 793–1073 K with H2–H2S–N2 atmospheres corresponding to equilibrium P S2 levels from 6.5 × 10−5 to 0.65 Pat The kinetics of iron sulfidation are intermediate in form to linear and parabolic rate laws.

Surface effects in invasion percolation
Physical Review E, 1997Boundary effects for invasion percolation are introduced and discussed here. The presence of boundaries determines a set of critical exponents characteristic of the boundary. In this paper we present numerical simulations showing a remarkably different fractal dimension for the region of the percolating cluster near the boundary.
