Measuring Surface Velocity of Water Flow by Dense Optical Flow Method [PDF]

open access: yesWater (Switzerland), 2019
Recent advances in video processing technology have provided a new approach to measuring the surface velocity of water flow (SVWF). However, most of the previous researches using video processing technology depended on tracers for target tracing, requiring spraying tracers in the measurement process.

From Surface Flow Velocity Measurements to Discharge Assessment by the Entropy Theory [PDF]

open access: yesWater (Switzerland), 2017
A new methodology for estimating the discharge starting from the monitoring of surface flow velocity, usurf, is proposed. The approach, based on the entropy theory, involves the actual location of maximum flow velocity, umax, which may occur below the water surface (dip phenomena), affecting the shape of velocity profile.

Influence of endothelial surface on flow velocity in vitro

American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology, 1993
The influence of the endothelial surface and its interaction with various plasma components on flow velocity was investigated in vitro. The falling velocity of microcarrier beads with and without cultured porcine aortic endothelial cells in a vertical tube containing different media was recorded with a video system attached to a light microscope.

Velocity distribution in a gradually accelerating free surface flow

Advances in Water Resources, 2006
This study investigates the interaction of the vertical velocity v and the streamwise velocity u in a gradually accelerating flow. The analytical result shows that the momentum of uv driven by the mean velocities in a non-uniform flow is not negligible.

Surface velocity of a flowing surfactant solution

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 1979
Abstract An aqueous sodium dodecyl sulfate solution (at concentrations exceeding the CMC and containing variable amounts of tetradecanol as a minor component) is forced to flow in a canal under the influence of a hydrostatic pressure gradient. Two barriers, spanning the canal, are brought at the air-water surface.

Evaluation of the tablets’ surface flow velocities in pan coaters

European Journal of Pharmaceutics and Biopharmaceutics, 2016
The tablet pan coating process involves various types of transverse tablet bed motions, ranging from rolling to cascading. To preserve satisfactory results in terms of coating quality after scale-up, understanding the dynamics of pan coating process should be achieved.

Intermittency of the velocity fluctuations in a granular surface flow

Physics of Fluids, 2007
Velocity fluctuations in a granular surface flow are studied. These fluctuations are self-similar at small scales with an energy density spectrum showing a −5∕3 power law. The probability density functions of velocity increments are strongly non-Gaussian.
