Effect of Disjoining Pressure on Surface Nanobubbles

open access: yesLangmuir, 2016
In gas-oversaturated solutions, stable surface nanobubbles can exist thanks to a balance between the Laplace pressure and the gas overpressure, provided the contact line of the bubble is pinned. In this article, we analyze how the disjoining pressure originating from the van der Waals interactions of the liquid and the gas with the surface affects the ...

AFM Slip Length Measurements for Water at Selected Phyllosilicate Surfaces

open access: yesColloids and Interfaces, 2021
Most reported slip length measurements have been made at the surfaces of synthetic materials and modified synthetic materials. In contrast, few slip length measurements at the surface of unmodified natural mineral surfaces have been reported.

Nanobubbles explain the large slip observed on lubricant-infused surfaces

open access: yesNature Communications, 2022
Why are lubricant-infused surfaces so effective at reducing drag in microfluidic flow? Here, authors reveal that infused nanostructured Teflon wrinkles induce large interfacial slip due to the spontaneous nucleation of surface nanobubbles, a mechanism ...

Multidimensional In Situ Characterization of Surface and Free Nanobubbles in Oxidic Nanofluids

open access: yesPowders
The efficiency of froth flotation drastically drops towards ultrafine particles. Some improvements may be possible using smaller bubbles and high degrees of turbulence, however, reaching their limits in the nanometer particle range.

Stability of pinned surface nanobubbles against expansion: Insights from theory and simulation. [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Physics, 2020
While growth and dissolution of surface nanobubbles have been widely studied in recent years, their stability under pressure changes or a temperature increase has not received the same level of scrutiny.

A Perspective on the Applications of Triphasic Gas Storage in Electrochemical Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Gas storage in microporous materials positioned locally at an electrode or electrocatalyst surface enhances electrochemical processes. Abstract Microporous materials store gases under dry conditions (e.g., hydrogen or oxygen via physisorption), but in some cases microporous materials also show triphasic (e.g., in a solid|gas|liquid system) gas storage ...

ROS‐Responsive Nanobubbles for Dual‐Enhanced Ultrasound and Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Tumor Oxidative Stress

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We report the development of biotinylated PEGylated bilirubin‐coated perfluoropentane (bt‐PEG‐BR@PFP) nanobubbles, a novel class of ROS‐activatable and dual‐modality contrast agents that amplify both ultrasound (US) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) signals in response to elevated ROS.
