Nanostructures for surface plasmons

Advances in Optics and Photonics, 2012
Surface plasmons (SPs) are electromagnetic excitations existing at the interface between a metal and a dielectric material. Control and manipulation of light based on SPs at the nanometer scale offers significant advantages in nanophotonic devices with very small elements, since the peculiar properties of SPs can be tailored by construction of ...

Nanostructured superhydrophobic surfaces

Journal of Materials Science, 2005
A study on superhydrophobic silica surfaces based on roughness created by assembling different nanostructured materials was reported. Four different surface structures were created on a silica base material, which was subsequently covered with a self-assembled monolayer of tridecafluoro-1,1,2,2- tetrahydrooctyldimethylchlorosilane (TFCS).

Nanostructures on microstructured surfaces

Microsystem Technologies, 2006
Many applications require the combination of micro- and nanostructures. One interesting combination is to provide the master of a Fresnel lens (microstructure) with a moth-eye anti-reflective layer (nanostructure) (Wilson and Hutley in Opt Acta 29(7):993–1009 1982).

Nanostructured chiral surfaces

Nanotechnology, 1999
Chiral organic surfaces were generated via adsorption of the pure enantiomers of heptahelicene, a helically shaped aromatic hydrocarbon, on a Ni(111) surface in ultra high vacuum. Time-of-flight secondary mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) revealed that the molecule stays intact at room temperature.

Imaging Surfaces and Nanostructures

2011
Abstract : Publications of this research are reported in Science, JACS, JPC, ChemPhysChem, PNAS, Nano Lett., and PCCP. Developmentally, we have advanced ultrafast electron microscopy (and diffraction) to a new level. The electron pulses typically have an energy of 30 keV for diffraction and 100-200 keV for microscopy, corresponding to speeds of 33-70 ...

Stability of Nanostructures on Surfaces

2004
Self-assembly of ordered structures, a few nanometers wide, has been observed on many interfaces critical to new nanotechnologies. They are thought to arise because of a delicate balance between long-range strain field interactions and short-range chemical forces that stabilizes these structures.
