The Steiner Problem on Surfaces of Revolution
Graphs and Combinatorics, 2012The Steiner problem consists on finding the shortest path network connecting a finite set of given points on a surface. It is well understood in the Euclidean plane and on surfaces of constant curvature. The aim of the paper is to develop an algorithm for the \(n\)-point Steiner problem on a surface of revolution with a non-decreasing generating ...

Offsetting Revolution Surfaces
2011In this paper, first, we provide a resultant-based implicitization method for revolution surfaces, generated by non necessarily rational curves. Secondly, we analyze the offsetting problem for revolution surfaces, proving that the offsetting and the revolution constructions are commutative.

A subdivision scheme for surfaces of revolution
Computer Aided Geometric Design, 2001This paper describes a simple and efficient non-stationary subdivision scheme of order \(4.\) This curve scheme unifies known subdivision rules for cubic B-splines, splines-in-tension and a certain class of trigonometric splines capable of reproducing circles.

Ray Solutions on Surfaces of Revolution
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1987Our concern is the development of techniques for the analysis of wave propagation and general transient response of thin shells to local loading. In general, ray methods are useful for such problems. In the present work, the ray solutions are obtained for a shell of revolution with high prestress, for which the bending stiffness of the shell wall can ...

A surface of revolution is generated by rotation of a plane curve z = f(x) about an axis Oz called the axis of the surface of revolution. The resulting surface therefore always has azimuthal symmetry.

Computing isophotos of surface of revolution and canal surface
Computer-Aided Design, 2003Isophote of a surface consists of a loci of surface points whose normal vectors form a constant angle with a given fixed vector. It also serves as a silhouette curve when the constant angle is given as π/2. We present efficient and robust algorithms to compute isophotes of a surface of revolution and a canal surface. For the two kinds of surfaces, each

Eigenfunctions and Eigenvalues on Surfaces of Revolution
Results in Mathematics, 1990Let M be a surface of revolution; M is topologically a sphere or torus. The rotation group O(2) acts on M by isometries and also on the eigenspaces E(\(\lambda)\) for the Laplacian D. Each irreducible representation of dimension 2 is characterized by a winding number \(k\in {\mathbb{N}}\).
