Dynamic surface patterns on cells [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Chemical Physics, 2022
Dynamic pattern formations are commonly observed in multicellular systems, such as cardiac tissue and slime molds, and modeled using reaction–diffusion systems. Recent experiments have revealed dynamic patterns in the concentration profile of various cortical proteins at a much smaller scale, namely, embryos at their single-cell stage.

Patterning of Surfaces for Subsequent Roll Bonding in a Low-Oxygen Environment Using Deformable Mesh Inlays

open access: yesJournal of Manufacturing and Materials Processing, 2023
Efficient roll bonding for the manufacturing of clad strips not only requires surface activation but also is improved by a surface patterning to reduce the initial contact area.

Scarred patterns in surface waves [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2001
Surface wave patterns are investigated experimentally in a system geometry that has become a paradigm of quantum chaos: the stadium billiard. Linear waves in bounded geometries for which classical ray trajectories are chaotic are known to give rise to scarred patterns.

The Role of Crystalline Orientation in the Formation of Surface Patterns on Solids Irradiated with Femtosecond Laser Double Pulses

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
A theoretical investigation of the underlying ultrafast processes upon irradiation of rutile TiO2 of (001) and (100) surface orientation with femtosecond (fs) double pulsed lasers was performed in ablation conditions, for which, apart from mass removal ...

PDMS-Based Nanoimprint Lithography for Photonics

open access: yesCommunications, 2014
Implementation of planar surface photonic crystal (PhC) structures leads to improvement of optical properties of optoelectronic devices. Application of such structures can be attractive for overall and local enhancement of light from patterned areas of ...

Stripe patterns on surfaces

open access: yesACM Transactions on Graphics, 2015
Stripe patterns are ubiquitous in nature, describing macroscopic phenomena such as stripes on plants and animals, down to material impurities on the atomic scale. We propose a method for synthesizing stripe patterns on triangulated surfaces, where singularities are automatically inserted in order to achieve user-specified ...

Patterning Perfluorinated Surface with Graphene Oxide and the Microarray Applications

open access: yesMicromachines, 2019
A method was developed to pattern the surface of perfluorinated materials with graphene oxide thin film, and various biological applications of the patterned perfluorinated surface were illustrated.

Patterning Biological Gels for 3D Cell Culture inside Microfluidic Devices by Local Surface Modification through Laminar Flow Patterning

open access: yesMicromachines, 2020
Microfluidic devices are used extensively in the development of new in vitro cell culture models like organs-on-chips. A typical feature of such devices is the patterning of biological hydrogels to offer cultured cells and tissues a controlled three ...

Generating surface crack patterns [PDF]

open access: yesGraphical Models, 2009
We present a method for generating surface crack patterns that appear in materials such as mud, ceramic glaze, and glass. To model these phenomena, we build upon existing physically based methods. Our algorithm generates cracks from a stress field defined heuristically over a triangle discretization of the surface.
