Effect of surface plasmon on optical detection of picosecond ultrasonic pulses generated in aluminum nanofilms

open access: yesPhotoacoustics, 2023
Photoacoustic and thermoacoustic detection methods, including picosecond ultrasonic laser sonar based on metallic thin films, are widely used in industrial applications for their noninvasiveness.

Bouncing surface plasmons

open access: yesOptics Express, 2007
Employing an interferometric cavity ring-down technique we study the launching, propagation and reflection of surface plasmons on a smooth gold-air interface that is intersected by two parallel, sub-wavelength wide slits. Inside the low-finesse optical cavity defined by these slits the surface plasmon is observed to make multiple bounces.

Surface plasmon and photonic mode propagation in gold nanotubes with varying wall thickness [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Gold nanotube arrays are synthesized with a range of wall thicknesses (15 to >140 nm) and inner diameters of ∼200 nm using a hard-template method.

Au-Ag Gradient Alloy Nanoparticles with Extended Surface Plasmon Resonance Wavelength: Synthesis via Microreaction

open access: yesNano Biomedicine and Engineering, 2011
Au-Ag gradient alloy nanoparticles were directly synthesized in a microreaction system with their surface plasmon resonance been facilely adjusted. The surface plasmon resonance wavelength was red-shifted through increasing the raw ratio of Au3+:Ag ...

High-Performance coupled plasmon waveguide resonance optical sensor based on SiO2:Ag film

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2021
A coupled plasmon waveguide resonance (CPWR)-based optical sensor takes advantage of the evanescent wave at a waveguide boundary to excite surface plasmon polaritons, which can link waveguide electromagnetic energy to a surface plasmon wave to enhance ...

Surface Plasmon Polaritons on Metallic Surfaces

open access: yesOptics and Photonics News, 2007
A unified theoretical study of surface plasmon polaritons on flat metallic surfaces and interfaces is undertaken to clarify the nature of these electromagnetic waves, conditions under which they are launched, and the restrictions imposed by Maxwell's equations that ultimately determine the strength of the excited plasmons. Finite Difference Time Domain

Using surface plasmonics to turn on fullerene's dark excitons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Using our recently proposed Bethe-Salpeter $G_0W_0$ formulation, we explore the optical absorption spectra of fullerene (C$_{60}$) near coinage metal surfaces (Cu, Ag, and Au). We pay special attention to how the surface plasmon $\omega_S$ influences the

Pearcey plasmon: An autofocusing surface wave

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2021
In this article, we present a new kind of autofocusing surface plasmonic wave: the Pearcey plasmon. The result shows that the Pearcey plasmon evolves at the silver-air interface in the form of two-dimensional Pearcey plasmon function.

Surface collective modes in the topological insulators Bi$_2$Se$_3$ and Bi$_{0.5}$Sb$_{1.5}$Te$_{3-x}$Se$_{x}$ [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We used low-energy, momentum-resolved inelastic electron scattering to study surface collective modes of the three-dimensional topological insulators Bi$_2$Se$_3$ and Bi$_{0.5}$Sb$_{1.5}$Te$_{3-x}$Se$_{x}$.
