Surface Properties and Surface Contact

1991
Tribology is defined as ‘the science and technology of interacting surfaces in relative motion and of related subjects and practices’. Therefore, if we are to understand tribological processes, we must understand how surfaces interact when they are loaded together, and it is the primary purpose of this chapter to develop such an understanding.

Interfacial Properties of Interacting Surfaces

Europhysics Letters (EPL), 1995
A gas of interacting surfaces with energy depending on area and mean curvature is described as an Ising spin model on a cubic lattice. The interfacial properties in the region where the nearly pure ordered phases and the high-temperature disordered phase coexist are studied.

Surface Antibacterial Properties of Compomers

European Archives of Paediatric Dentistry, 2006
This was to evaluate the antibacterial properties of four different compomers, using direct contact test (DCT) and agar diffusion test (ADT). Compomers (Polyacid Modified Composite Resin) form a group of dental restorative materials which were developed in order to improve conventional glass-ionomer and are widely used by pediatric dentists in primary ...

Properties of the Surface

1973
So far we have dealt with the bulk properties of semiconductors and tacitly assumed that the crystal is extended infinitely. We will now briefly discuss the influence of the crystal surface on the transport properties of semiconductors.

Surface properties of synthetic phospholipids

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 1972
Abstract 1. 1. Three kinds of dipalmitoyl dl -1-phosphatidyl-alkanolamines were synthesized in a pure state and the monolayer properties of these compounds and of the synthetic phosphatidylcholine were measured. Their conformations in monolayer in relation to the effects of the chemical structures of polar groups upon their surface parameters ...

Surface properties of fibrinogen and fibrin

Journal of Protein Chemistry, 1990
By contact angle measurements on layers of fibrinogen and fibrin, it can be shown that the transformation from fibrinogen to fibrin is accompanied by a change in surface properties from very hydrophilic (fibrinogen) to moderately but definitely hydrophobic (fibrin).

Surface Charge Properties of Kaolinite

Clays and Clay Minerals, 1996
AbstractThe surface charge components of 2 Georgia kaolinites of differing degrees of crystallinity (KGa-1 and KGa-2) were determined using procedures based on charge balance concepts. Permanent structural charge density (σ0) was determined by measuring the surface excess of Cs, which is highly selective to permanent charge sites.

Surface properties of bone mineral

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta, 1961
Abstract The charge and ionic interactions of the bone mineral surface have been studied by microelectrophoresis. In isotonic NaCl the surface has a negative charge, bu the sign and charge density can be altered by the adsorption of other anions and cations. In order of decreasing tendency of adsorption the cations studied are: Ca 2+ >Mg 2+ ⪢Cs + >K +

Surface properties of emulsan-analogs

Journal of Chemical Technology & Biotechnology, 1999
The colloidal properties of emulsans formed by incubations of Acinetobacter calcoaceticus RAG-1 on different carbon sources were studied. The apparent critical micelle concentrations (CMC) of the emulsans tested ranged from 25 to 58 mg/dm -1 . Surface and interfacial tensions of the solutions showed little dependence on pH between 2 and 10. In contrast,

Surface properties of beached plastics

Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2015
Studying plastic characteristics in the marine environment is important to better understand interaction between plastics and the environment. In the present study, high-density polyethylene (HDPE), polyethylene terephalate (PET), and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) samples were collected from the coastal environment in order to study their surface properties.
