Contribution of vegetation change to the surface radiation budget: A satellite perspective

Global and Planetary Change, 2020
Abstract The surface radiation budget is of crucial importance to ecosystem evolution but varies with complex atmospheric and surface conditions. Vegetation change alters the surface thermal properties and the subsequent radiation budget; however, the vegetation contribution is difficult to isolate from mixed influences.

Surface radiation budget in an Alpine valley

Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, 2003
AbstractSurface radiation data were collected at seven sites in the Riviera Valley in southern Switzerland during the special observing period of the Mesoscale Alpine Programme's Riviera project from August until October 1999. During the daytime on selected ‘valley wind’ days, strong site contrasts occurred with respect to solar and downward long‐wave ...

Surface Radiation Budget from Satellites

Monthly Weather Review, 1984
In this paper, a brief summary is presented of ongoing work dealing with the derivation of the Surface Radiation Budget (SRB) from satellite observations. The discussion will focus on the description of: (1) a model for deriving downwelling global solar radiation, (2) regression techniques for inferring the total net radiation from planetary net ...

Surface radiation budget at Barrow, Alaska

Theoretical and Applied Climatology, 1990
At Barrow, the most northerly point in the U.S., radiation measurements were carried out. It was found that multiple reflection between the ground and stratus clouds, due to high surface albedo in winter, enhances the global radiation. These measurements are in agreement with model results.

Satellite Mapping of the Surface Radiation Budget

1996
Bioclimatology is defined in the preface to Advances in Bioclimatology as “the study of the relations between the physical environment and the form and function of living organisms”. Such a definition largely confines the discipline to the proximity of the land surface, the interface between the atmospheric boundary layer, vegetation and the soil ...
