In Situ Micromechanical Study of Bimodal γ′–γ″ Precipitate Assemblies in Ni–Cr–Al–Nb Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A Ni–Cr–Al–Nb superalloy with a bimodal γ′–γ″ precipitate distribution is developed. Composite precipitate assemblies form through heterogeneous nucleation, effectively impeding dislocation motion. Micropillar compression reveals high strength at room and elevated temperatures, governed by precipitate shearing, with coupled faulting mechanisms ...

An Experimental High‐Throughput Approach for the Screening of Hard Magnet Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An entire workflow for the high‐throughput characterization and analysis of compositionally graded magnetic films is presented. Characterization protocols, data management tools and data analysis approaches are illustrated with test case Sm(Fe, V)12 based films.

A Variational Stereo Method for the Three-Dimensional Reconstruction of Ocean Waves

open access: yes, 2011
We develop a novel remote sensing technique for the observation of waves on the ocean surface. Our method infers the 3-D waveform and radiance of oceanic sea states via a variational stereo imagery formulation.

Nondestructive Testing of Welded Composite Metal Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
X‐ray computed tomography (CT) is used to evaluate welded steel–steel composite metal foam (CMF) joints of two density classes. It reports variation in postweld spatial void distribution and correlates it to weld‐induced changes, mechanical performance, and failure within welded CMF panels.

In situ Surface Polishing Enables VOC Approaching 95% of the Theoretical Limit for Efficient Inverted Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Surface modification of perovskite films by conventional chemical additives suffers from the complexity of the process and the risk of secondary contamination, which limits the open‐circuit voltage (VOC) of the perovskite solar cells (PSCs).

A surface structure model for Si(337)

open access: yes, 1996
The surface reconstruction on Si(337) at room temperature has been studied by low energy electron diffraction (LEED). It has been found that: (I) the Si(337) gave a clear LEED pattern which indicates the existence of another high index stable surface ...

Enhancing Bubble Removal in Geometry‐Optimized Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
3D‐printed lattice electrodes outperform stochastic foams in alkaline water electrolysis despite 20%–25% lower surface area. Straight flow channels generate Venturi‐like bubble entrainment, suppressing gas accumulation that renders foam interiors electrochemically inactive.

Generation of Digital Elevation Models Using the Poisson Equation and the Finite Element Method

open access: yesModelling
This paper presents a finite element methodology for generating continuous digital elevation models (DEMs) from discrete terrain data using the Poisson equation under steady-state conditions. Unlike conventional DEM interpolation techniques, the proposed

Matlab toolbox for analysis of 3D images [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
AB Here we describe a MATLAB toolbox for analysis of 3D images obtained using a 3D scanner. Toolbox consists of two main parts: various filters for improving the image quality and a module for surface reconstruction from an unorganized set of ...

Microstructure Reconstruction in Battery Electrodes Using Machine Learning Based on Low‐Voltage Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy Tomography Images

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.
