Towards spatial assessment of carbon sequestration in peatlands: spectroscopy based estimation of fractional cover of three plant functional types [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Peatlands accumulated large carbon (C) stocks as peat in historical times. Currently however, many peatlands are on the verge of becoming sources with their C sequestration function becoming sensitive to environmental changes such as increases in ...

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in

Reflectance transformation imaging systems for ancient documentary artefacts

open access: yes, 2011
This paper discusses the interim results of the AHRC RTISAD project. The project has developed and tested a range of techniques for gathering and processing reflectance transformation imaging (RTI) data.

Oncogenic DMTF1β promotes cancer cell motility by regulating autophagy through ULK1 stabilization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the current study, we demonstrate that the oncogene DMTF1β regulates ULK1 stability by reducing its proteasomal degradation in cancer cells. This stabilization enables ULK1 to induce autophagy, which in turn facilitates cancer cell migration. Consequently, reduced DMTF1β levels lead to decreased autophagy and impaired cancer cell migration.

A new lab facility for measuring bidirectional reflectance/emittance distribution functions of soils and canopies

open access: yes, 2011
Recently, a laboratory measurement facility has been realized for assessing the anisotropic reflectance and emittance behaviour of soils, leaves and small canopies under controlled illumination conditions.

Monitoring real time polymorphic transformation of sulfanilamide by diffuse reflectance visible spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This study investigated the development of a novel approach to surface characterisation of drug polymorphism and the extension of the capabilities of this method to perform ‘real time’ in situ measurements.

Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.

Characterisation of the apparent reflectance of a concrete calibration surface over different time scales

open access: yes
This paper describes results from a detailed field spectral measurement campaign, designed to assess the temporal stability of calibration surface reflectance factors.

Identification of functional murine mitochondrial formyl peptides and their effects on myeloid‐derived suppressor cell generation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We first identified functional murine mitochondrial N‐formyl peptides (MT‐FPs) and investigated their effects on the in vitro myeloid‐derived suppressor cell (MDSC) generation from bone marrow cells. We demonstrated that MT‐FPs acted directly on bone marrow cells to promote MDSC generation and modulated the polymorphonuclear (PMN)‐MDSC/monocyte (M ...
