Surface roughness modeling of CBN hard steel turning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Study in the paper investigate the influence of the cutting conditions parameters on surface roughness parameters during turning of hard steel with cubic boron nitrite cutting tool insert. For the modeling of surface roughness parameters was used central

Smoothing of rough surfaces [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review B, 1995
Simulations of surface smoothing (healing) by Langevin dynamics in large systems are reported. The surface model is described by a two-dimensional discrete sine-Gordon (solid-on-solid) equation. We study how initially circular terraces decay in time for both zero and finite temperatures and we compare the results of our simulations with ...

Thermoreflectance Detection of Point Defects Resulting from Focused Ion Beam Milling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Focused ion beam (FIB) milling is a common tool for nanoscale material processing, however irradiation damage, redeposition, and contamination can occur. We use several characterization tools to show FIB‐induced effects beyond 1 mm from the milled area.

Tailoring the frictional properties of granular media

open access: yes, 2011
A method of modifying the roughness of soda-lime glass spheres is presented, with the purpose of tuning inter-particle friction. The effect of chemical etching on the surface topography and the bulk frictional properties of grains is systematically ...

Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

Experimental Study and Random Forest Machine Learning of Surface Roughness for a Typical Laser Powder Bed Fusion Al Alloy

open access: yesMetals
Surface quality represents a critical challenge in additive manufacturing (AM), with surface roughness serving as a key parameter that influences this aspect. In the aerospace industry, the surface roughness of the aviation components is a very important

MULTIDIMENSIONAL ROUGHNESS CHARACTERIZATION FOR MICROWAVE REMOTE SENSING APPLICATIONS USING A SIMPLE PHOTOGRAMMETRIC ACQUISITION SYSTEM [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2012
Soil surface roughness, as investigated in this study, is a critical parameter in microwave remote sensing. As soil surface roughness is treated as a stationary single scale isotropic process in most backscattering models, the overall objective of this ...

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.
