Barnacle Settlement Behavior on Controled Micro-textured Surfaces

open access: yesZairyo-to-Kankyo, 2009

Near‐Field Electrospinning Micro‐Printhead Achieves Precise Control of Nanofiber Deposition

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A micro‐printhead for near‐field electrospinning enables reproducible deposition of polymer nanofibers with diameters below 50 nm. Systematic parameter studies uncover the mechanisms linking operating conditions to fiber morphology, paving the way for precise and low‐cost nanoscale 3D manufacturing. As a high‐resolution, cost‐effective, and rapid ...

Surface Settlement of Column-Supported Embankments: Results of Laboratory Tests

open access: yes, 2015
There is little published guidance describing how to relate settlement at the surface of a column-support embankment to settlement at the base. One method proposed by Russell et al.

Enhancing Bubble Removal in Geometry‐Optimized Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
3D‐printed lattice electrodes outperform stochastic foams in alkaline water electrolysis despite 20%–25% lower surface area. Straight flow channels generate Venturi‐like bubble entrainment, suppressing gas accumulation that renders foam interiors electrochemically inactive.

Microstructure Reconstruction in Battery Electrodes Using Machine Learning Based on Low‐Voltage Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy Tomography Images

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.

Numerical Studies for the Application of the Methodology for Volume Loss of Cohesionless (Loose) Soils (VL,LSR) and the Additional Settlement (Smax) During Shield Tunneling

open access: yesBuildings
This paper presents results of numerical modeling of tunneling using mechanized tunnel boring machines (TBMs) based on a methodology for determining the volume loss cohesionless (loose) soils, denoted as VL,LSR, for shallow tunnels in dispersive soils to
