Orientation variation of surface strain [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review B, 2007
Expansion of the surface layers of a facetted hemispherical nanocrystal of Pb is reported at a temperature just below the melting point. Inversion of the coherent x-ray diffraction pattern yields quantitative three-dimensional maps of the deformation of the crystal from its equilibrium lattice spacing.

Vesicular stomatitis virus glycoprotein is necessary for H-2-restricted lysis of infected cells by cytotoxic T lymphocytes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1978
Vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) elicited cytotoxic thymus-derived lymphocytes (CTLs) in mice of the BALB/c and three congenic strains (BALB.b, BALB.k, BALB.HTG).

Wine Yeast Strains Under Ethanol-Induced Stress: Morphological and Physiological Responses

open access: yesFermentation
During alcoholic fermentation, ethanol accumulation significantly impacts yeast cells by disrupting membrane integrity, increasing permeability, and reducing cell viability.

Cell Wall Surface Properties of Kluyveromyces marxianus Strains From Dairy-Products

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
Thirty-three Kluyveromyces marxianus strains were tested for the ability to form biofilm and mat structures in YPD and whey and for cell surface hydrophobicity.

Overlapping functionality of the Pht proteins in zinc homeostasis of streptococcus pneumoniae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Streptococcus pneumoniae is a globally significant pathogen that causes a range of diseases, including pneumonia, sepsis, meningitis, and otitis media. Its ability to cause disease depends upon the acquisition of nutrients from its environment, including

Phenotypic and genotypic characterization of daptomycin-resistant methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strains: relative roles of mprF and dlt operons. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Development of in vivo daptomycin resistance (DAP-R) among Staphylococcus aureus clinical isolates, in association with clinical treatment failures, has become a major therapeutic problem.

Control of Surface Wettability via Strain Engineering

open access: yes, 2013
Reversible control of surface wettability has wide applications in lab-on-chip systems, tunable optical lenses, and microfluidic tools. Using a graphene sheet as a sample material and molecular dynamic (MD) simulations, we demonstrate that strain ...

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Surface-Related Features and Virulence Among Acinetobacter baumannii Clinical Isolates Belonging to International Clones I and II

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
Acinetobacter baumannii currently represents one of the most important nosocomial infection agent due to its multidrug-resistance and a propensity for the epidemic spread. The A.
