Fault and magmatic interaction within Iceland's western rift over the last 9kyr [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We present high-resolution 'Chirp' sub-bottom profiler data from Thingvallavatn, a lake in Iceland's western rift zone. These data are combined with stratigraphic constraints from sediment cores to show that movement on normal faults since 9 ka are ...

Hydrologic control on natural land subsidence in the shallow coastal aquifer of the Ravenna coast, Italy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Multiple processes contributing to natural land subsidence in a shallow coastal aquifer near Ravenna (Italy) were identified by analysing the relationships among different data set time series (water table level, rainfall, land reclamation drainage, sea ...

Surface Multi-Hazard Effects of Underground Coal Mining in Mountainous Regions

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Underground coal mining induces surface subsidence, which in turn impacts the stability of slopes in mountainous regions. However, research that investigates the coupling relationship between surface subsidence in mountainous regions and the occurrence ...

Prediction and analysis of mining subsidence in Longdong Coal Mine

open access: yesGong-kuang zidonghua, 2013
In order to predict and analyze mining subsidence in Longdong Coal Mine, prediction model of main cross section mining subsidence was established by use of probability integration method, and distribution law of surface subsidence deformation of main ...

Mine Geological Environment Monitoring and Risk Assessment in Arid and Semiarid Areas

open access: yesComplexity, 2021
Along with the accelerated shift of coal mining to the ecologically fragile west, the contradiction between coal resource development and ecological protection in the western arid and semiarid coal mining areas is rapidly intensifying. Based on the above

Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 regulates cell adhesion and membrane protrusive activity of ovarian cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 (MMP9) drives ovarian cancer progression. Using MMP9‐null cells (M9‐KO) created from ovarian cancer cells, we found MMP9 loss did not block Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)‐driven E‐cadherin dissolution or EMT but delayed and reduced EGF‐driven membrane protrusions. Transient MMP9 re‐expression drove membrane protrusion.

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

Effects of mining subsidence observed by time-lapse seismic reflection profiling [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Extracting coal from underground mineworkings causes the overlying rocks to subside with associated changes in the stress regime. The aim of the study reported here was to apply the surface seismic reflection method to study the effect of subsidence on ...

Analysis of Mining-Induced Delayed Surface Subsidence

open access: yes, 2021
The topic of residual subsidence is important in Europe as it defines possible surface deformation for closed mine areas. It has to be determined because of potential financial claims and damages of sensitive objects such as satellite dishes, precision ...

Comparative Effectiveness and Safety of Inebilizumab Versus Rituximab in AQP4‐IgG‐Positive NMOSD

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Rituximab (anti‐CD20, RTX) and inebilizumab (anti‐CD19, INE) represent B‐cell‐depleting therapies used for aquaporin‐4 antibody‐positive (AQP4‐IgG+) neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD); however, direct comparative evidence remains limited.
