A survey of intersection algorithms for curved surfaces
Computers & Graphics, 1991Abstract This paper reviews the surface/surface intersection problem as it arises in CAGD. Algorithms are presented and classified according to the representation of the surfaces. Some conclusions are drawn regarding the representations most amenable to accurate intersection calculations.

Offset curves and surfaces: a brief survey
Computer-Aided Design, 1992Abstract The designing of offset curves and surfaces is an essential task in many industrial applications such as the generation of tool-path geometry in numerical-control machining and robot-path planning. The paper discusses problems that are encountered in the designing of offsets, gives a brief survey of existing techniques, and suggests some ...

Complex Surface Fabrication Via Developable Surface Approximation: A Survey
IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer GraphicsComplex surfaces are commonly observed in various applications and have significant value in enhancing comfort, aesthetics, and functionality. However, their fabrication often involves complex and costly processes. To simplify the fabrication difficulty, significant research has focused on using 3D developable surfaces to approximate target 3D surfaces.

Surface charges in helium (a survey)
Soviet Journal of Low Temperature Physics, 1975A survey is made of theoretical and experimental results obtained so far pertaining to the characteristics of surface charges at the helium liquid-vapor interphase boundary. The electron states above a plane helium surface are described; the theory of interaction between surface electrons and thermal surface excitations in liquid helium is presented ...

On the analysis of surface temperature surveys
New Zealand Journal of Geology and Geophysics, 1962Abstract The problem of obtaining information about underground heat sources from maps of the surface temperatures and temperature gradients is investigated from a theoretical standpoint. It is shown that the source distribution is not uniquely defined by this surface information and that methods for numerically extrapolating ...

A Survey of the Representation and Design of Surfaces
IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications, 1983The surface appropriate for a given problem depends on the application; there is no universal surface form. The numerous applications of surface methods include modeling physical phenomena (e.g., combustion) and designing objects such as airplanes and cars.

A Survey of Pluto’s Surface Composition
2018Pluto was discovered less than 100 years ago (in 1930) by Clyde Tombaugh at Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, AZ. The founder of the observatory, Percival Lowell, had initiated a systematic search of the sky to find the putative Planet X in 1905 (Tombaugh 1960).

Beauville Surfaces and Groups: A Survey
2014This is a survey of recent progress on Beauville surfaces, concentrating almost entirely on the group-theoretic and combinatorial problems associated with them. A Beauville surface \(\mathcal{S}\) is a complex surface formed from two orientably regular hypermaps of genus at least 2 (viewed as compact Riemann surfaces and hence as algebraic curves ...
