Tribological Properties and Oil Flow Observation of Porous Sintered Metal with Dimple Texturing by Block-on-Disk Friction Tester

open access: yesTribology Online, 2019
Presence of micrometer-scale textures on a surface can modify the friction properties of that surface. In this study, we investigated the fundamental tribological properties of Cu-Sn porous sintered metal with the rounded rectangle dimple texturing under

Surface Textured Polymer Fibers for Microfluidics [PDF]

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, 2014
This article introduces surface textured polymer fibers as a new platform for the fabrication of affordable microfluidic devices. Fibers are produced tens of meters‐long at a time and comprise 20 continuous and ordered channels (equilateral triangle grooves with side lengths as small as 30 micrometers) on their surfaces.

Defect Evolution and Mechanical Performance of Fused Filament Fabrication‐Manufactured 17‐4PH Stainless Steel Revealed by X‐Ray Computed Tomography

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
X‐ray computed tomography reveals how process‐induced defects evolve from green to sintered states in Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF)‐manufactured 17‐4PH stainless steel. Internal porosity, weakest cross‐sections, and fracture locations show strong correlation with tensile performance, demonstrating the potential of computed tomography (CT)‐based ...

Textured surface stereoscopy

open access: yesi-Perception
Julesz constructed stereograms in which surfaces in depth could be seen with two eyes but not with either eye alone. He noted that such enclosed surfaces in depth never occur in natural scenes. In contrast, extended stereoscopic surfaces are a natural feature of binocular vision.

Neuronal alignment on asymmetric textured surfaces [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Physics Letters, 2012
Axonal growth and the formation of synaptic connections are key steps in the development of the nervous system. Here we present experimental and theoretical results on axonal growth and interconnectivity in order to elucidate some of the basic rules that neuronal cells use for functional connections with one another.

Influence of Scan Strategies in Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion on Solidification, Microstructure, and High‐Temperature Compressive Properties of γ′‐Strengthened Inconel 738LC

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Experiments and thermophysical simulations were conducted to investigate the electron beam powder bed fusion electron beam (PBF‐EB/M) process for the γ′‐strengthened nickel‐based superalloy Inconel 738LC. The results demonstrate the impact of process‐induced microstructural variations on high‐temperature mechanical behavior, providing a basis for ...

Continuous Stiffness Graded Metal–Ceramic Femoral Stems: UMAT‐Based Design and Finite Element Assessment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Functionally graded metal–ceramic femoral stems are engineered through continuous UMAT‐based stiffness tailoring, eliminating discrete material interfaces while enhancing biomechanical compatibility. Low‐index power‐law gradation optimizes load transfer, reduces stress shielding, and controls implant–bone micromotion, highlighting a materials‐design ...

The Influence of Surface Texturing on the Frictional Behaviour of Parallel Sliding Lubricated Surfaces under Conditions of Mixed Lubrication

open access: yesLubricants, 2018
In many industrial applications, a modification of the surface geometry can enhance the tribological behaviour of lubricated sliding contacts. In this paper, the effect of surface texturing on the coefficient of friction in parallel sliding lubricated ...

Filtering color mapped textures and surfaces [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the ACM SIGGRAPH Symposium on Interactive 3D Graphics and Games, 2013
Color map textures applied directly to surfaces, to geometric microsurface details, or to procedural functions (such as noise), are commonly used to enhance visual detail. Their simplicity and ability to mimic a wide range of realistic appearances have led to their adoption in many rendering problems.

Additive Manufacturing of Alumina‐Reinforced Elastomers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Vat‐photopolymerized elastomers reinforced with platelet‐shaped alumina exhibited preferential orientation, reduced porosity, and significantly enhanced mechanical performance. A 3 wt% platelet loading increased tensile strength from 12.4 to 45.7 MPa, highlighting the critical role of filler morphology in elastomeric VPP composites.
